Where do I start with the food they serve at this place? First off, those oatmeal griddle cakes that everyone raves about...I have no idea what they were actually serving that day. To me griddle cakes is another name for pancakes. Have I been woefully misinformed my entire life? These strange things they serve are more like a cross between a crepe and a bowl of oatmeal, literally. So the first plate that I received had a light colored hair in it...ick! But I informed the server who apologized and immediately offered to replace it. Fine. Then the second iteration arrived shortly thereafter, and as soon as I cut into the center of it I realized it had the consistency of raw, uncooked batter even though it was burnt around the edges. My thought was that they must've rushed it back to me as a replacement. I informed my server that I thought it was raw/undercooked and he again apologized and offered to bring yet another replacement. Third iteration arrives and it's exactly the same. This time he explains that this is sort of the idea...crispy edges and warm oatmeal center! Finally I understand why the customers at table next to us had only picked at a few bites around the edges and then put their forks down. At first I thought they must've all been on some sort of carb restricted diet and were just exercising remarkable self restraint ... all four of them! So afterwards I went back and read the reviews and all but one raved unconditionally about how spectacular these griddle cakes are. There was but one review buried in them all which complained about the same thing as I am here. Oddly burnt around the edges, and raw looking batter in the middle. It all turns into a disgusting sloppy mess as you start eating it. I'm sorry, but since when does trying to be unique and "artisinal" have to equate with being oddly offputting? Am I missing something here? Then the scrambled eggs side order was so soft and runny that I couldn't finish it. They don't ask how you'd like those scrambled eggs finished, just assume everyone enjoys barely cooked eggs. When I saw them on the table next to us prior to receiving ours, I truly though it mac n cheese! So much for trusting reviews here. I don't know if it's me, or most people have a strange idea about what I otherwise assumed would've been light and fluffy, fully risen pancakes...and normally prepared scrambled eggs. Sorry, not impressed. The service and atmosphere is fine for what it is, a breakfast diner. So no...
Read morealthough the food, service and atmosphere are all 5s i’m giving an overall rating of 4 because of the limited menu. while i do think that everything they make they excel at i just wish they had more offerings. we ordered the OG griddle pancakes, scrambled eggs and the picnic ham. the ham is insane! nothing like i’ve ever had, it looked like steak and it had a nice sweet flavor to it. the eggs were loose and i liked them but i also love eggs so with that i’m not sure they are going to blow someone away. the OG pancakes were extremely good even without the molasses butter. you can kind of taste the oatmeal but i like it, its very original. also if you are someone who is turned off by the texture of oatmeal it doesn’t have that texture. my mom cannot eat oatmeal because of the texture but she loved these pancakes and said it wasn’t an issue. the pancakes are very soft and almost mushy in the center which i loved. i still think bubby’s takes the number one spot for pancakes in nyc but these are pretty good. as for the service i love it, you order and pay before you sit so that you can just leave when you’re done which i appreciate as someone who hates waiting for the bill. the food comes out pretty quickly and the kitchen is open so you can watch them cooking. the wait to get in also wasn’t long, on a sunday at 11:30 we only waited 20 minutes. the restaurant is small but not crowded, the tables are spaced enough and we had plenty of room. overall i liked it and i would come back but i don’t think i would run back just because their aren’t...
Read moreCame here after wanting to try the pancakes for months and was thoroughly disappointed. I got the banana walnut and my partner got the original as well as a side of chicken sausage. It’s hard to describe but all of the food tasted a bit off. The chicken sausage was seasoned in the wrong way and didn’t pair with the pancakes. The pancakes were confusing, a bit underdone in the middle but crispier on the edges. One of my pancakes had banana inside but the rest didn’t? They give a few minuscule scoops of butter and no syrup.. I would’ve preferred to be served the pancake and add my syrup accordingly. The food was subpar but the vibe of the restaurant was very off. My partner went to grab a table while I was in line (we were next to order) and the waiter told her she couldn’t sit until placing the order. I get that this it’s first come, first serve, but there were a few tables open and it felt unwelcoming… wish we caught the vibe and decided to...
