Iconic bakery, really friendly service - a real neighborhood place and a reminder of the Brooklyn where I was raised. I no longer live in Brooklyn, but I will make the trip from Connecticut for bread this great - haven't had bread like this since Morrone's on E 116th in Harlem closed years ago. While it is cash only, the prices are incredibly fair- bakeries here in Connecticut charge at least four times as much per loaf for a product that isn't nearly as good! And while the bread from Arthur Avenue in the Bronx is good, Caputo's takes it to another level. To be honest, I always knew Caputo's existed but hadn't been there (for at least 30 years) until last week. I was downtown Brooklyn and decided to walk through the Heights down Court Street. So one block led to another and there it was! Visions of a seeded semolina twist and prosciutto/lard bread danced in my head and I went all in. To make a long story short - several chunks of the semolina bread and half a prosciutto bread never made it home since I ate them on the train home. And other riders were eying me and asking me where I got such great smelling bread!! Thankfully, I bought several loaves so I wrapped the others carefully and froze them. I will definitely be back! It's the kind of place where things are he way they always were and should always...
Read moreThe holiday spirit is alive at Caputoâs. This is the first time Iâve ever written a reasoning for anything, but I was so mean today I had to come home and make sure that I let folks know about this fantastic bakery.
Iâve been to this bakery a few times, and I love their bread. But this morning, I went to Caputoâs bakery for bread and biscotti, and when I got there I thought Iâd lost my wallet. A lovely woman, who worked in the bakery, said to me âDonât you dare worry about it, and Merry Christmas.â As panicked as I was, I couldnât help but feel so grateful for what she did, and it warmed my heart and kept me clam. When I got home, I found my wallet, then I immediately picked up the phone and sang praises for Caputoâs. At a moment of stress, this gesture had the power to keep me from going off the edge. Just when you think 2020 couldnât get any worse, her action lifted me up and made me feel hopeful. I wonât forget her kindness and as long as I live in Brooklyn, I will get my fresh baked Italian bread there.
*Also, thank you to the gentleman who was ahead of me in line and offered to pay for my bread...
Read moreExcellent Italian bakery. Visited for a fresh crispy italian loaf. You know how great a bakery is by the fact that 98 percent of the bread was already sold out before noon.
Server was a pleasure to chat with. Breads baked daily.on the premises. Due to lack of space no slicer is available. Prices are really low for the great quality of products sold.
This is a community well.known bakery got over 25 years in the area.
Bakery popped out with a few last loaves of seeded bread when he realized that the shelves were 99% empty. He must have heard the longing in my voice that there were no non semolina breads available. A bakery that makes sure that no customer leaves empty handed.
The smell upon entry made me hungry. I will have to go early about 800AM to sample the other breads and specialty breads available.
It was a pleasure to walk into an establishment that evoked my 40+ years of eating fresh baked daily. A true Italian bakery in the heart of Mill Basin Brooklyn, on Avenue N and about...
