We had Buttermilk do our wedding cake and they did an absolutely incredible job.
First, we requested a wedding cake sampler-- which is allows you to taste a little bit of everything. They prepared a truly magical display and my partner and I had so much fun tasting everything-- we felt like we were on Bake Off!
After we picked our favorite (the wedding slice with lemon and raspberry-- SO DREAMY) we talked with Katy about our design. My partner and I are big Joy Division fans and we asked if she could do a take on the infamous album Unknown Pleasures.
If you've ever seen that album cover, you can imagine how intimating that request could be. Katy didn't flinch for a second! She worked with us to come up with a design that was true to the original (but also feasible). As well as the album art, we asked for two-tier with a dark ombre on the bottom and some silver leaf.
I almost cried when I saw the final product-- tears of JOY! It was exactly what I pictured. And it tasted AMAZING! Everyone wanted seconds.
Almost every shop we went to before Buttermilk told us it couldn't be done or they didn't offer to work with us. Some said the only way we could do it was an edible image. So happy to have found a shop so willing to work with us!
Katy is a true artist and this place is the best in Brooklyn. Get your cakes here! Wedding, birthday, any occasion-- you won't be disappointed.
Thank you Katy...
Read moreCute little place with tasty baked goods though a bit limited on variety. My big complaint is that they have hannukah menus posted all over the place with prices that they not only don't honor but seem to just make prices up on the fly based on how the disembodied voice in the back of the shop feels like making them. They have listed mini jelly donuts (3) for $2. This seemed like a great deal. However, after ordering a dozen to bring to a hanukah party I'm attending later, and having them already boxed up, the attendant yells to the back what's the price. At which time a voice belonging to a woman I wasn't even aware was there (and who never once showed herself) declared 3 for $4. When it was pointed out that their NUMEROUS laminated signs say 3 for $2 the only response again from the voice in the back was "nope, 3 for 4". When I then highlighted maybe they want to update their signs (including the one hanging on the register) I was ignored and told the price for my items (at 3 for $4) and rudely rushed out the shop/ignored for the next customer. The terrible service and random changing of prices from affordable to a rip off ensures, regardless of the fact that they are tasty, that I will never be going back, and I highly recommend others avoid it as well unless they like paying random...
Read moreWhile researching cake options for my May wedding, I found out about BB online and was instantly impressed with their Instagram account of beautiful (cup)cakes for an endless variety of occasions. Their taste in décor really struck a chord with me so I immediately set up a tasting – they did not disappoint! My fiancé and a couple of our friends were treated like royalty during our meeting and had the opportunity to taste about a dozen different flavors. It was difficult to choose so Katie was nice enough to let us order four different flavors of cupcakes for our wedding, plus a small two-tier cake for cutting. Not only were the cakes delicious, they were also very affordable, which hubby appreciated. On top of baking, Katie generously offered to put together all 120 cupcake papers - what an angel! Fast forward to our big day and tragedy struck; the deliverer got into an injurious car accident and all the cakes were ruined! Katie immediately stepped up, called for reinforcement and remade the entire order!!! Meanwhile, I had no idea because they were amazingly on-time, beautiful and exactly what we ordered. She even got all new cupcake papers! Just, WOW! If that’s not what every bride looks for on her wedding day… I would absolutely recommend Buttermilk Bakeshop to just about anyone for...
