I'm kinda torn here. I brought my family here to celebrate grandma's birthday. It's a small cramped restaurant, not really suitable for a family style old Italian restaurant vibe that they proudly advertise as. Right off the bat, it was incredibly loud and any attempt to have a civil convo at your table will be drowned out by people screaming in all directions. By the end of the night, I had lost some of my voice trying to have convos with my siblings sitting next to and across from me. Portions are huge as they should be since it's family style italian. However one of the entrees we ordered, the veal parm was absolutely putrid garbage food. It was old, stale had off putting aftertaste. Food came relatively quick even though they were very busy. Pastas were less than al dente almost undercooked but edible with rich sauces. Everyone agreed the best pasta of the night was their maddy gun's pasta. Overall it was not a very enjoyable experience mainly because a couple of dishes totally missed the marks and you would have to be an obnoxious drunk to be yelling over people to have a decent convo here with your family. I actually miss the old classy Tuscany grill that used to be here.
Update to the owner's response: Surely I understand your points but when your patrons are not enjoying the night due to loud and obnoxious ambience and just trying to make the best of it while not sending any dish back due to their own belief you shouldn't be mocking such opinion. I did not want a white glove service with soft jazz playing in the background as you stated. I'm not in a position to lecture anyone but at the very least you should learn to listen to negative criticism to further improve upon certain aspects of the restaurant's operation instead of mocking one's opinion. Last time I checked opinion is free. I do not believe in sending dish back to the kitchen mainly because I don't believe in receiving another stellar dish that you should have checked before sending it out to the table the first time. If we didn't like it that's that, lesson learned. I'm neither a confrontational person nor a person who wants or begs for comps. That's why idon't give out criticism to the poor lady server who is clearly overworked at your establishment. That's why service gets high stars because she tried and did a good job with her service. I cannot say the same about your veal parm that you decided to send out to our table using old stale ingredients and clearly poorly made for God knows how long it's been stored in your walk in before you decided to make our dish with it. If you had made that dish as fresh as you did with your pasta, this experience would have been 4 stars experience at least if not 5 but food makes the night at any restaurant where people pay their hard earned money to enjoy the meals but this was not the case. You have caused the problem from your kitchen so don't take it out on your paying customers with negative attitude. By the way, we used to love tuscany grill. Tuscany grill never disappointed us and we had been there countless times and made great memories before they were permanently closed. Nobody is perfect and we do not certainly expect perfection but satisfaction so at least meet us halfway , won't ya? I did mean to pay another visit to your current establishment for another occasion but with that attitude, I'm not so sure now and am getting turned off quite honestly. If you believe that you have been in service industry long enough, I'm sure you can do better. As a fellow small business owner, I listen to my customers' feedback. Sometimes we encounter demanding customers but more of wonderful customers. It's all part...
Read moreWhat an excellent restaurant. I rarely post google reviews, maybe 2-3 in my life, but I felt that this experience definitely deserved a review. My wife and I have been to probably a hundred restaurants over the years and thinking back I honestly can’t remember enjoying a meal the way we did last night. Brooklyn Roots has a good vibe. It’s a small restaurant, Very casual. One of the owners, Alan was his name was walking around in a pair of fresh Jordan’s and a Yankee Fitted. I love it lol. Very friendly. Came over to amour table on more than 1 occasion to see if we were satisfied so far. Waitress, I forgot her name. Young Hispanic lady. Very very friendly and attentive. Drinks were brought out pretty quick. Food came out at just the right pace. We were able to enjoy our drink, then apps came. Dinner wasn’t rushed out immediately after apps were cleared off the table. We had another few minutes to enjoy the bottle of Italian wine we ordered before the food came. The food, oh man. Best Italian I’ve had in s long long time. Portions were huge. Caesar salad was absolutely delicious. Stuffed mushrooms were a 10. Stuffed with spicy Italian sausage. I had the veal parm. Probably the best one I’ve ever had. Portion was the size of a manhole cover. Had to take 1/2 home. And I always finish my entrees lol. My wife had shrimp scampi over linguini. The minute they put the plate on the table I knew it was gonna be dynamite. The way the spaghetti was sitting on the plate it was obvious the pasta was perfect Al dente. This was a creamy scampi and the sauce coated every inch of the pasta. At least 6 large shrimps. Huge portion again. Food was so on point, I felt obliged to stop Alan as he walked by and tell him. He was very appreciative, these guys in food service work very hard to satisfy the customer and I just felt that he should know him and his staff blew us away. He told us to try the bread pudding for dessert which we did, nothing worse than a dry bread pudding though. This one was the opposite. Delicious chunks of bread in a creamy custard. Excellent. This place has a very simple menu. Dishes that you could find at any Italian restaurant you go to. But the food was just next level. Far and away better than any Italian I’ve had in a long long time. That’s the most impressive thing about Brooklyn roots. Will...
Read moreWe ate here a couple of weeks ago on a Thursday night around 5pm. I was unimpressed with the decor and the seating arrangements, it still looked like The Tuscany Grill, in fact I think it still had the same grubby paint from the 90's on the walls and ceilings. We ordered sangria (wasn't a fan) switched to the Tuscan Blend, Gran Passaia (still wasn't a fan)....didn't drink it and so my next drink was water! We ordered the fig starter which was in a cheesy, citrus sauce with crispy prosciutto, the figs were not ripe, the sauce was meh and the prosciutto was too over cooked, not for me. This was a tasteless dish. We then ordered the special pasta which was supposed to be a short rib/cheese triangular ravioli in a red wine sauce. Well the sauce tasted like red wine vinegar (with nothing else added) and the ravioli was completely lacking in short ribs, I did search for it dissecting the pasta completely but I couldn't find it for the life of me! My Husband had the Sinatra? I think that was what it was called - pasta with various shellfish. It was also tasteless, my Husband thought the shellfish was not very fresh and just lacking in everything a good enjoyable Italian meal should be. We didn't really complain we just said we didn't like much of anything that we ordered, when the waiter asked if we wanted to take the food home (which we didn't). We would have happily paid the bill & quickly left, but they made a whole fuss and wanted to give us the meal for free as we didn't enjoy it. That was really good of them and we appreciated it, still leaving $40 tip for the waiter (who was lovely BTW). If you enjoy top notch Italian food, this is not the place for you and definitely isn't for us. But I wish the owners well, if you can keep serving to this standard and filling the place knock yourself out but we...
