Ostensibly an Asian-inspired cream puff & desserts bakery (with great savory selection) as other reviews will regale, to me Butterdose is a wonderful cafe to work at, with the best hojicha (not latte) in New York. Despite the flood of Asian cafes in Manhattan, it's hard to come by a pure hojicha drink that isn't diluted and sweetened into unrecognizability! I'm usually not a stickler for service as long as I get what I pay for and staff doesn't go out of their way to be a jerk to me, but the owner of Butterdose who is usually at the counter is such an absolute pleasure that I have to go out of the way to compliment the service!
As a place to work: open till 9pm! This is very rare and a godsend for people who want to work on creative hobbies or after-hour work in cafe vibes wonderfully stable and speedy wifi (70mbps) nice vibe, decent configuration of tables and chairs for working, surprisingly un-cramped for this part of town! functional restroom, not a given in Manhattan quiet, chill music no laptops on weekends. i respect that, I'm happy to just use the space comfortably when there aren't a ton of clients limited power sockets, near the less-good seats at times can be full (finals week etc), but that's just a sign that the...
Read moreThe first time I visited, I didn't get anything because the cream puffs weren't available until after 12pm and that's what I stopped in for. Nevertheless, I came by later in the day and really enjoyed the overall atmosphere and service. The server was nice and promptly took our order. We got our food quickly and were able to enjoy the vibes of the cafe as we ate. The private bathroom was clean and well-stocked, too - a great perk that many cafes in the area lack. My only complaint is how small the cream puffs were and the lack of flavor. I visited a few other cafes specifically to try out different cream puffs and was disappointed in how small these were in comparison. Also, the flavor was very very bland and the filling was surprisingly greasy. We ordered the tiramisu and ube coconut and both of them somehow tasted exactly the same.. and both left the same grease slick feeling in the mouth. It wasn't horrible, and we both finished our treats, but both agreed we wouldn't be back (at least not for cream puffs). But they do have a lot of other options so I definitely recommend stopping in and picking up...
Read moreButterdose has some really tasty creme puffs! They have a variety of creme puff flavors from strawberry, rose lychee, pumpkin, ube, chocolate, yuzu, and tiramisu. I really liked their strawberry sakura creme puff, it was so good. I liked it better than their pumpkin flavored creme puff. The creme puff was really flavorful and their creme was absolutely splendid. The creme puffs were medium sized and were a pretty decent size. The interior design of this store was really nice and chic. Their chairs and tables were so nice. It was beautifully decorated and there was ample seating inside. I also loved the graphic designs in butter dose. The employee of the store was nice and polite. They weren’t rude or anything. Overall, customer service was good and my creme puffs came out quickly and in such a cutely designed box.
