Right before Covid hit NYC, we noticed the placard boosting “#1 croissant in New York by NY Daily News.” We popped in and fell in love. BEST CROISSANT IN NY (or if you are a contrarian, admit it’s THE best without having to hop on a subway or take a cab). We are grateful this French deli exists in our neighborhood, especially after Provence en Boîte closed. Delish bread, treats and tarts, and shockingly good Hamantaschen. Wonderfully pre-packaged French foods. And cheeses galore. This place is a true asset to the neighborhood.
Seven months later....the croissants are still great, but they need to make up their minds about Tuesdays. They are ALWAYS CLOSED (with a sign on the door apologizing). It's really ridiculous. Change your store hours/days.
Feb 2022....they DID change their store hours in 2021. Now closed Monday AND Tuesday. Unfortunately, they are now closing on Wednesdays for "renovations" (same as last year)! Or...they are not open at 6:30 (when they are supposed to open). I understand - I owned a brick and mortar shop for years - things happen - but this is ridiculous. I...
Read moreSo surprised by some of the reviews because I had the most amazing sandwich there this past (Saturday of Thanksgiving) weekend. We were in the area and stumbled upon the store while looking for lunch, our first time there. I had the Le French Baguette and I can easily say it was the best sandwich I had in the past year, likely longer. I am still thinking about it, maybe becoming obsessed. Everything tasted so fresh - the bread, the ham, the generous slices of brie, the lettuce and tomato. Everything just melded beautifully and the Dijon gave it the right punch. It was made to order so it did take about 10 minutes but man, was it worth the wait. I ate it about 15 minutes after pickup and there was no sogginess whatsoever. Generous portion, very fair price. We live in Manhattan but I will be making the trip over there again. Looking forward. I hope they can repeat...
Read moreIt’s really sad how customer service and food safety have gone downhill. This is my second time having a negative customer service experience here. After clicking away on the POS checkout system and casually touching his hair, I asked the associate to change gloves before grabbing the baked goods for me. This led to an awkward pause and eye roll. Then after changing gloves, he proceeded to touch the screen again and disgruntedly said “I don’t like being asked things twice, so I’ll just change my gloves again” and then repeated this same line a second time, combined with “I don’t like hearing it from my bosses either”. The interaction was uncomfortable and offputting, enough so to deter me from visiting the shop again. However, if adequate staff training were put in place I would reconsider, since I enjoy supporting small...
