The worse experience I ever had in New York. DO NOT EVEN CONSIDER IT!
I stayed in this hotel around 5 years ago and it was absolutely fabulous. Service was spot on, vibe was nice and rooms clean and beautiful, so I thought I'll stay a second time.... such a horrible decision it was, defo never again would stay there not recommend anyone to do so.
To begin with, on arrival I was treated like I was making them a favor by staying in. Really basic manners and the reception was looking more like a war zone than a 5 stars hotel (no even 1 star I'd say). I got to the room and straight on you can see that things have gone bad bad. Carpet is not clean enough, windows are filthy, the toilet still has some 'hair' around the sink and so on.
During the week I went to the bar with my work colleague and were attended with really bad manners once again, still we got a drink each and went to bed, I'd have never thought this will become a nightmare after that.
It comes check out time and I'm in a rush to get to the office. Upon providing my room number receptionist responds "I can see you have thrown a massive party in the rooftop", my face at that point is like a poem gone wrong. He says "we have a bill of $2,800 you need to settle", directly assuming that it was mine and I was trying to avoid it after he saw my 'surprising' face. I absolutely did not spend that money but $40 instead which I've paid in cash so I said that is not mine. Surprising he and the manager of the hotel which was by his side said "well, that we will need to investigate as you put down your room number on this bill"... shocking!! I start getting upset and asked them to look at it as this was an absolute mistake, to which they said "you will need to prove that". I then responded as I should have from the very beginning and the manager says "oh, I'm sure we can fix this over a drink in the rooftop right now"... excuse me? 10am and you want me to fix things over a 'drink' while I told you I need to go to work.... absolutely unreal.
After 40 minutes waiting on reception to get this sorted, they kind of agree to give me an invoice with a 'waive' of the $2800, which I absolutely denied as that charged was not even mine...
Never mind, the story does not end here. I leave my luggage with them (MASSIVE MISTAKE) and when I come to pick it up they tell me I only have 2 to collect, when my ticket says 3. I soon realized that a massive problem was coming, they have given away my hand luggage with passports, wallet, and all valuable items to someone else. My hand luggage is nowhere to be found and the concierge is giving me attitude and calling me a liar stating "you only had two piece of luggage", even though they were the ones write it down for me.
I then panic and I walk into reception to see what is going on, when I get back I see this 'lovely lady' standing up with my hand luggage totally ready to go and the concierge comes real fast, knowing very well at that point that this was my hand luggage, and said 'ohhh this is yours', please take it and asked me "can you go now?"... was that arranged? I'm still shocked and scared of what would have happened if that person would have left with my passport, wallet, etc. before I got there.
UNBELIEVABLE, for your own safety,...
Read moreReading some recent reviews, I was honestly surprised by how negative they were. I really enjoyed our stay at Le Meridien.
PROS: great location, super close to Central Park, shopping, restaurants, and easily walkable to major destinations like Rockefeller Center or Times Square. Can also hop on a bunch of different subway lines. Our bed was super comfortable, but low to the ground if that’s an issue for folks. AC was BUMPING. Design was really gorgeous throughout the hotel, including the room. I loved the headboard design. There are a lot of complaints here about how the room lacked art, but the design of the headboard felt plenty artistic to me. front desk and valet staff super lovely and accommodating. We were able to get an early check in, which was SUPER appreciated after a 4 hour drive.
CONS: you have to call to request your car from valet an hour in advance. That can be a little tough to plan around on check out days, especially if you have other things planned that morning. I had to step out of our brunch reservations to call ahead of the car. But other than that, valet was seamless and straight forward. If you’re planning on using your car often during your visit, it may be tricky. Closet and counter space could be an issue for some people. I was with my boyfriend, who is pretty minimal clothes and toiletry wise. I like to fully unpack my stuff in hotel rooms, so there was enough space for my things but probably not for both of us if he brought a lot of stuff. He was happy to live out of his suitcase. The elevator is pretty slow and tiny, so they fill up fast, especially by the time they get to the lower floors. We waited about 10 minutes most mornings for an elevator. We weren’t in a hurry, but it still sucks to just stand in a hallway for that long. this wasn’t a con for me, but will be for others: it can be loud. There is construction across the street. The hotel is on a major street, there are sirens at night. If you are used to city noises, it’s fine. I only noticed because I knew it was something other people had complained about in reviews. My boyfriend didn’t notice at all. If you are expecting silence, you may want to request a higher floor.
For reference, we were in a Cozy King on floor 9. Hotel is a little pricey, but name me a better hotel in that area with the same size room at the same price point.
TLDR: great location, appreciated the contemporary design and cheery service, remember you are in a major city and the hotel can’t control everything (like elevator coding or...
Read moreFirst of, I'd like to say I too work in the hospitality industry myself and understand things do not always go as planned.
I redeemed 35000 points to stay at your new Meridien property expecting it to be polished- however it was anything but.
On booking I had selected to redeem for a "Guest room, 1 King, Central Park view". Instead I received a room on the 11th floor in room 1109 over looking the alley. I believe my room faced East; Central Park is to the North of the hotel.
Soon after checking in, the fuse blew and all the lights went out in the lobby and gym.
When I first went to the washroom I had noticed one of the two flushing buttons was missing from the toilet.
I tried contacting the front desk a number of times before I had to attend my meetings however, it was met with deaf ears. I presume they were busy dealing with other hotel guests. I also tried contacting concierge however, that resulted in the same way.
The shower was clogged and was on the brink of over flowing after 15 minutes in the shower. The sink was clogged and would overflow.
The next morning I call the Marriott phone number to voice my displeasure of the room as through out the night there was knocking/vibrations in my room even though I was as far away from the elevator as possible. This woke me up a number of times.
The escalations team member on the phone put me on hold and called the front desk and told them what was going on. I asked her to check what room type I had on her end and she claimed I had a "city view" not "Central Park View". I had mentioned to her I am confident I had booked a Central Park View" as I was looking at the email confirmation. She mentioned to talk to the GM of the hotel.
Soon after that phone call a member of the staff from the front desk called to profusely apologize. He was not the GM but had acknowledged by disappointing stay. I also asked him what room type I showed under in his system and he echoed the same thing as the escalations team member in saying I had a "city view" in his system. I pressed him for how many rooms actually had central park views. He noted only 5-7. He said a manager would contact me later that day. I never received a call.
Would highly not receommend staying here as there are clearly issues with the...
