I live across the street and so was curious to try this place - I love izakayas and just returned from my third trip to Japan a month ago, so figured my partner and I decided to try this fancy-appearing izakaya.
The sushi is pretty fresh and tasty. We got yellowtail ‘nori taco’ & a tuna roll and they did hit the spot - tho they are definitely a more fusion take of Japanese sushi. I would definitely come back for more sushi sometime, but I feel a bit burned by the rest of the menu, which is way overpriced for the area and simplicity of the dishes. There also wasn’t a soy sauce dish on the table, though I realize it’s a soft open so maybe they’re getting a routine down still.
Didn’t try yakitori so cannot speak on that.
The wagyu fried rice is completely overpriced - $46 for a small portion of wagyu in very thin strips (almost noodle like shape). The dish tasted fine good but was mostly rice of course - definitely not worth the cost and I won’t order it again. I have paid less for this exact same type of dish in ski resorts like Vail.
We also got a side of brussell sprouts which tasted too strongly of lemon juice, it felt like there were no other flavors. I love having veggie sides but it was a bit disappointing, hope they get the balance right in the future.
The cocktail I ordered was $17 - considering the price, I expected a more complex set of flavors and a more elevated presentation, yet it tasted like it was made in a college bar. Manhattan cocktails are same price but more flavorful - I’d stick to beer here.
Interior design is very beautiful to look at and the wait staff were accommodating and kind.
My seat was uncomfortable - booths are too high and close to the table. Maybe try to sit in the chairs instead unless you’re quite short.
All in all, great addition to the area for sushi. Perhaps the rest of the menu will...
Read moreI came in after a Pilates class and I was kind of afraid I'd be turned away because... I looked kind of crusty and the place looked so fancy even in the reception area. But they didn't even bat an eye and showed us to our tables. As soon as we sat, we got some nice, refreshing edamame. I'm not often in LIC but I enjoyed watching all the dogs passing by in the floor-to-ceiling windows. Lot's of corgis and dogs that look like my dog (curly haired, fluffy, small-ish dogs with boba for eyes). The food was good, I'd recommend the uni nori taco (my favorite) and the drinks (I got the rain or shine). The taco was umami and cold and salty, the drink was smooth and not too sweet, which went well with the food. The risotto was good too, I feel like the rice(?) wasn't too hard, could've been saltier but that could also just be that I like intense flavors. Going off of that, I'd say skip the rolls and go straight to the entree stuff because the rolls were a bit basic (unless that your preference). If you get the yakitori, try the salmon belly. It sounded gnarly to me, but if you like fatty and that bitter kind of umami taste, go for it, it's good. The scallops were good too; it was hilarious because it comes with so many on a stick, I was wondering how they even got them on without...
Read moreTook one of my best friends here for his birthday last night and it was truly one of the most beautifully designed, delicious, accommodating restaurants I’ve ever had the joy of dining at in NY. As a former 13-year-long NYC resident, this topped the charts for hospitality, ambience, and quality of ingredients/thoughtful menus. If you want to treat someone special to a delicious meal, this is THE spot. I asked for a little glass each of celebratory sake when we walked in and they brought a whole chilled bottle, a special appetizer of wagyu beef, and gave us free edamame as well (I think this is their version of like a bread basket before the meal which was amazing bc we were so hungry and it came almost instantly after sitting down) Yoko was our waitress (she’s incredible and so kind,) and the manager, David is also so generous and kind. If you go here and your night was made by these gracious professionals, sincerely thank them and leave them reviews. It helps more than you know! To order, we highly recommend the Cyan Fox Roll, Wagyu fried rice, matcha crème brûlée (never having regular again!!!) anddd the blue fin tuna nori tacos! Cocktails: Throw Pillows/Rain Or...
