I’ve been to djondjon restaurant twice & i can officially say that i will not be going back. About a month ago i went to this restaurant with a few friends & we were not happy at all. They do not have the authentic haitian food as someone mentioned in one of the reviews.First of all they only have one type of rice which is diri djondjon & it does not taste the same as the regular ones i known of,as well as the ‘’legume’’ my friend & i could all agree on that. Moreover we asked for soup joumou, after waiting for over an hour, the server came back to say there’s no soup joumou like seriously? After an hour? The only thing that was good was the ‘’fritay’’ but i could go on & on about a lot of things that we were not happy about that day but at last we left the restaurant very unhappy with the food.
Last week i decided to give it another try cause everyone deserve a second chance & chose to go for fritay since that’s the only thing i liked the first time i went, boy! I was wrong. At first i called & ask if i can take ‘’kabrit boukonnen’’ with my fritay, the lady i spoke to said yes you can take your ‘’kabrit’’ whichever way you want & the price will be the same as if you took it fry. After hearing this,i left my house & drove close to 30 mins to reach the restaurant only for the front lady to tell me if I’m getting the ‘’kabrit boukannen’’ with my fritay the price will be different which is double price of the fry goat but again with no argument as the lady seemed a bit frustrated as i was telling her about my call i just took the regular fritay. I told her i’m going to sit in my car & come back in 20 mins since she said it’d take 20 mins or so to prepare both fritay as i ordered 2 of them,a ‘’tassot’’ & a ‘’griot’’ long story short,i came back after 15 mins & my food was already there waiting for me🤔😳 how can you freshly prepare 2 fritay in less than 15 mins.I don’t know if it was the owner but a guy gave me the food so i confronted him asking how come both fritay were ready in such a short period of time & he got the nerve to tell me that he doesn’t know,i placed the order & came back in less than 20 mins so he handed me my food as they gave it to him.Again to avoid argument i took the food & left.Once i got to the car i started eating my food, plaintains were warm, you can tell it wasn’t freshly made & the pork was hard. Seems like they use those frozen plaintains & just warm it up when people order or at least it was the case for me at the time cause there’s no way in the world you can prepare 2 orders of fry plaintain in 10 mins.In addition, after finish eating my fritay,i got sick to my stomach shortly after. All this to say that i will not be returning to djondjon restaurant & if you’re looking for the real authentic haitian food this is definitely not the best restaurant to go to,2/10 do...
Read moreI heard about this new restaurant and I wanted to check it out with friends. This is our experience: 1- The place is nice with friendly waitresses who welcomed us. 2- Beautiful Haitian painting decorating the walls creating a nice atmosphere. 3- High tech menu that you scan on your phone so you can place your order. 4- The place is also clean. 5- The main reason someone goes to a restaurant is for the food. We were soooo disappointed by the food. Oh my gosh! The food was horrible!!! We ordered a legume, a fish and a goat stew. The goat meat was so hard we had to take it home to cook it the right way. The legume was tasteless. It was like boiled vegetables with salt, no spices to enhance the flavor. As for the fish there’s no word to describe how bad it was. Does that mean there’s no hope for this restaurant? No not at all. The food is the only asset a restaurant has to offer. If the food is no good customers will not come back. The way to rescue this business is to hire a new chef right away. Someone who knows how to cook Haitian food. Besides that the waitresses are very nice and professional. The reviews above that mentioned the food is good or delicious are either from their friends or people who never had a good Haitian food before. Oh I should also mention that the presentation of the food was great. Everything you see in the pictures are accurate. The one star is only for the food. Because meat should be tender not hard to chew. Haitian legume should be tasty not just boiled with salt. The fried green plaintain was the only thing we enjoyed that night. I will certainly NOT come back again.
P.S. Big companies are giving away incentives to get customers’s honest feedback so they can figure out what they’re doing good or bad. You get an honest feedback instead of taking actions to correct your mistake by hiring a real cook, someone who knows how to cook real Haitian Food you prefer to hire a public relations person to manage your negative reviews. That’s a shame!!! Those hundreds of 5 stars reviews...
Read moreI love this place! I can tell you hands down, this is one of the best all around Haitian restaurants I have ever been to, and I'm a Brooklyn born and bred Haitian. I will start by saying, considering how the neighborhood is on the up, this restaurant does a great job in making the menu not only palatable to Haitians but new folks who have never tried our cuisine before. This is actually really good, in my opinion, cause rarely do you see the diversity in clientele in other typical Haitian restaurants compared to this place - so this is a major plus! Second, the service, I'll preface this by saying rarely do you encounter a Haitian restaurant that has spot on service, but this place is a 10/10!!! The owner, the manager, and the staff are very involved in making sure they are kind and caring to their clients. I have recommended this restaurant to several people after I had my first 3 dining experiences there, and every single time, those people have come back and told me the experience was fantastic - one even had a party catered there. Third the food - they give you a lot of food! Which I love, cause that's the Haitian way of cooking. Some dishes I always have and love : voodoo pasta, and lobey fritay (Tasso). When I tell you perfectly seasoned!!! They don't miss a beat. Also, the coconut shrimp appetizers and from what I hear the plantain submarine is delicious. As for drinks, I had the kitay tropical (nonalcoholic) drink which was soooo good, but there is a yellow drink...ask for that one cause it was super popular. Now presentation, I don't even need to say anything other than, the best I've ever seen out of a Haitian restaurant. And that says a lot!! I went there yesterday to celebrate my father's birthday, and they did such a spectacular job. All in all, you MUST visit this place. I am a patron that is usually very hard to please, and I have been to this enough to know it's at the top of my most...
