DD is really our go to sit-down restaurant when we are in JH for groceries. I'd recommend coming between noon and 12:45 to get a seating for groups of 2-4 - even on weekends, if you are walking-in!
They have a typical extensive menu ranging from Indo Chinese, South Indian delicacies and Punjabi cuisine. We have tried most, and sticking to the name, they do a good job with Dosa's! The only issue we've consistently had (whether we order in or sit-down) is their heavy hand on oil. I ordered a Mysore Rava Masala Dosa ($14.99) which was very greasy towards the end, but really tasty overall. Once can also not go wrong with Chilli Paneer Dosa ($12.99). The Plain Butter Dosa ($11.99) is generous on Butter as well as oil! I wish their dosas came with the very delicious tomato chuttneys, which is very common in most South Indian restaurants in the city.
If you do somehow manage to finish their delicious dosa's, be ready to get slightly nauseated at the end of your meal. I wish they went a little light on oil. Also, never order their filter coffee or Madras Coffee ($1.99) unless you like milk! It is really bad with very little coffee taste and very milky!
Service was excellent and noise levels are on the average end. Desi instrumental or english songs desi version of instrumentals gives the restaurant its Quintessential desi restaurant feel. Friendly staff and specific shoutout to Mohammed for his excellent service! I am sure we will visit again like we've done for the...
Read moreToday's experience at Dosa Delight was far from fine dining and rather unnerving.
The silverware and glasses were dirty. As two ladies, we were not attended to, but a family that sat next to us who came after us was immediately attended to. The place was dark during the middle of the day. For paper towels in the bathroom there was toilet paper. The food was somewhat decent, nothing spectacular, and for that reason alone, we give 3 stars. Otherwise it would be 1 star. However my friend said the portions were much smaller than in previous visits there. We suspect that a new owner has taken over. The wait staff was harried as if serving us was an annoyance and they were far from friendly. The vibes were quite tense.
The best part is that a waiter piled up dirty dishes from the table right under my face. So rude and uncouth that I have to laugh. It even had an aggressive tone to it.**
The other server wasn't thrilled at the request to get clean utensils as well and asked me if i wanted new clean utensils after I told him that we did.
I do not like to write such reviews but the experience was so offensive, it can't go unmentioned.
I got the sense that the place is about fast turnover, smaller portions, getting the buck and nothing about courteous service.
Will not...
Read moreOne cold night, I stumbled across this place and decided to try a Dosa. They were about to close but the owners were kind enough to accommodate us. I ordered a Rava Masala, their Madras filter coffee, and gol gappe. The server was so generous and polite, that they won my heart instantly. The food was very just amazing, the prices are extremely reasonable, the restaurant has a homey casual feel, but best was the service! It was that one day and to date, I have tried almost everything on their menu from dosas to thalis, pav bhaji, idli, sambar vada, malai chaap, uttapams, puris, naans, paranthas, etc. The papdi chat is to die for. It had fresh onions, buttery texture, fresh cilantro, and pomegranate seeds for garnishing. The taste was neither too sweet nor too spicy but just perfect!!
I can't say this enough but the whole menu is worth a try! The best quality Indian food that you can find in Jackson heights. I have already told my friends all about this place and would love to bring them along one day. The ambiance is so warm that you will want to come back. Even the owners are such lovely people, so kind, extremely polite, and accommodating to any of your needs. The service is so fast and they freshly made food which smells so amazing and...
