This place is absolutely horrible. Avoid at all cost. The customer service is horrible, food is mid and the prices are not worth the food they’re serving.

I went last night with my family(there were 4 of us there). The waiter came after 5 minutes and took our order. We ordered 2x Mix Chow mein , 1x dry Manchurian shrimp, 1x Manchurian fish, 1x sweet And sour chicken. After placing the order 5 minutes later she brought 4 glasses of water. We got our food about 15 minutes later. So get things were ok.

The food itself was very mid, nothing to wow about . The Manchurian shrimps were extremely spicy and the sweet and sour chicken didn’t taste good at all. The rice was dry and hard.

20 minutes into the dining, we finished our water and asked for more as the food was very spicy. The waiter Arpana acknowledged our request but didn’t bring the water then 5 minutes later we asked her again and she still didn’t bring the water. We saw her many times going around other tables, taking their order and punching it in. Throughout the entire dining experience we didn’t get any service from any waiter, not even a check-in.

We flagged another waiter down and just asked for our bill and take-out containers. The waiter brought us the containers for our take out and the bill. I was quite astonished to see that not only did the customer service was horrendous but that I was charged a “mandatory gratuity” of 15%. I asked the other waiter about this service charge and explained to him that we barely got any service so I don’t feel this charge is justified. I explained to the waiter that I don’t mind paying even 25% of a tip as long as the service justifies it.

He simply took the bill and went back to the register and told our server that we wanted to speak to her. She comes by after a while and we explain to her that we didn’t get the water even though we asked twice, she simply said that she forgot. At which point she goes in the back for 5 minutes and comes back with a jug of water, we tell her that we’re actually done and don’t need the water anymore but we want to pay. She comes back with the same exact bill again.

I explain to her again that I am not paying for a mandatory service charge and that I’d like to speak to the manager. The manager comes after 5 minutes and says that this is mandatory and some restaurants even charge 18%.

This restaurant is absolutely horrible! Avoid at all cost and save your money. If I could I would give it 0 stars. The restaurant and the washroom was dirty didn’t look sanitary at all.

After eating at the restaurant I had an upset stomach all night.

Never going back...

I won’t hear this place’s name and not suggest an alternative immediately.

I came here with expectations, so perhaps I can forgive the restaurant a little bit since having food standards has been increasingly hard post-COVID. My friends were told this place was amazing and thus we were happy to order here, and did so on the phone.

The woman over the phone wasn’t the best at explaining things, but the bigger issue was that for an order over $50, you need to give your credit card information and mobile number over the phone. That was at least, awkward. I don’t recommend that experience.

The issue however was the food itself. Let’s delve right into it— we were expecting halal American-Chinese cuisine, maybe with a Bengali twist that came with the neighborhood. We were thoroughly disappointed.

First of all, the fried rice isn’t the rice you expect— not sticky rice, not at all. it’s just the same rice you eat at a gyro cart when you call out for “chicken over rice white sauce hot sauce.” Yup, that rice. The meat in the chicken fried rice was actually that same meat too! That was a really sad thing. How could they not make even this basic dish properly?

The Chili Beef isn’t spicy, it’s just green chilies AND beef. The beef was flavorless, as well as the gravy; you’d only taste spice if you put the few cut up green chilies their threw in there. It was no chili sauce, and the meat did not absorb any flavor. We asked for chili beef, not for গোশ্ত with কাঁচা মরিচ on the side. it was utterly disappointing.

The General Tso’s chicken was mediocre, and the quantity very little compared to the other dishes. Pinching their precious pennies!

The lollipop chicken was overpriced, we only got three wings worth for each order— the sauce was just a flavored Korean mayo and a few pepper flakes. Not worth it, other local restaurants do it better.

Surprisingly, the shrimp and broccoli was actually fine.

I put the atmosphere at three stars, since my friends said it was “nice” when they went to pick it up.

If you want real halal American-Chinese food, please go to Halal Express or No Pork Halal Kitchen! Cheaper...

UPDATE:

I have to say the taste of the food definitely got better. I am so happy about that, because I had been a fan of Sagar Chinese for more then 20 years. I already been there couple of times.I am so glad I have decided to give it another try. Service was good, could be better. Especially on a slow day. I know we customers can be difficult but end of the day it’s a business. I also work on customer service & I know any business runs on excellent customer service! So saying this on a positive note, thank you for all your hard work guys🙏❤️

Never coming back..! Not paying my hard income money for raw rice ! And the customer service just horrific!

I am pretty sure it will be my last visit to The restaurant. Not worth the travel all the way to queens just to spend all that money & end up with raw rice. Highly disappointed!

I don’t care how much busy the restaurant is , no customer should get rice which is not even cooked ! Don’t even try to give me excuses about oh fried rice suppose to be like this! Because I had been making friend rice & eating fried rice more then 20 years to know how should fried rice be.

After all this time waiting & could not even boil the rice properly! You should be ashamed of yourself ! Came home & gave my son his food & it was heartbreaking because he couldn’t eat them! Waste of my time, energy & money Ofcource!

Even the chicken momo was horrible! If you don’t know how to make momo then don’t serve it.

Just because we Bangladeshis miss our kinda chaineese food too much doesn’t mean we gonna pay that much just to eat rubbish for too long. There are a lot of much better options in NYC now, so you better make your quality much higher before shut down for good.

If you are too tired because it’s too busy all day long then stop taking orders! Oh right you don’t wanna loose money ! Rather serve disgusting food to...

Delicious, Fresh, and Full of Flavor – Sagar Chinese is a Favorite! Sagar Chinese is a fantastic spot for anyone who loves bold flavors and fresh, satisfying meals. The menu offers a perfect fusion of Chinese dishes with a South Asian twist, and every item I’ve tried has been a hit. The food always tastes fresh, well-balanced, and full of vibrant spices without being too heavy or greasy. Their chili chicken is packed with flavor and cooked just right—crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. The vegetable fried rice is light yet filling, and the Hakka noodles are a must-try: perfectly stir-fried with fresh veggies and just the right amount of heat. What really stands out is how well they blend taste with a sense of healthy, home-style cooking. You can tell they care about quality ingredients and clean preparation. The staff is always friendly, the service is quick, and the portions are generous. If you’re looking for flavorful, comforting Chinese food with a healthy twist, Sagar Chinese is the place to go. Highly recommended!
