This is a Must Go To! We had the most sublime meal ever! From the Omakase selection we had a dish called Maria Sabina? The unctuous and umami flavors surround your senses and blow you away! Wild mushrooms, goat cheese, huitlacoche, shiitake mushrooms, and truffle oil on a flatbread. The Fantastic fish tacos were great! Little bites of crunchy yet tender fresh fish with fried beans, avocado, cabbage with a side helping of sauce whose heat sneaks up on you.As for the mains we had Huipil de Maiz -Soft corn tortilla, 4 cheeses, mild tomatillo sauce, greens, crema, with Huitlacoche Y Shiitake Mushrooms. The flavor of the corn popped, the unctuousness and umami huitlacoche and shiitake covers your mouth like a food of the Gods! The main I ordered was the protein of the day, a filet of fish smothered with a red sauce of olives, onions and magic!Accompanied by small purple potatoes, a fresh green onion and fries. This was also fantastic! If you want inventive cuisine that tantalizes your palate prepared with the freshest ingredients, then make your reservation to El Kallejon! The Chef/owner is a genius worthy of Michelin stars! Atmosphere- friendly and no pretentiousness. We can’t wait to go back!

Hidden gem! Excellent all around. Fun for a date night or a chill evening after work. Food - delicious and creative. Good mix of safe bets and exotic adventures. Drinks - fantastic and creative cocktails Service - slow for NYC if you are in a rush to get in and out, but perfect if you want to take the experience all in and enjoy the evening. Think island time, but worth it for the attention to care in the food and beverages. The owner, chef, bar tender, waiter may all be the same person at times (Nestor). Loved it! Atmosphere - It wraps it all up beautifully. It's quaint and festive. Loots to look at on the walls. Everything appears to be a personal work of art or decor. The small chairs and wood tables are fitting for the food, space, and overall vibe. I highly recommend it. I look forward to visiting again next time I'm in NYC.

I have a hard time rating this place because it truly was a nice dinner, great atmosphere and unique experience. However, I can't help feeling a bit blindsided and overcharged for the "omakase." The assortment consisted of some variation of the items already on the menu, he simply selected them for us. Charged $480 for 5 people to share maybe 10 small plates (would be considered appetizers in any other restaurant). We tried to ask more about it and were told there would be "lots of food, family style" but even getting extra chips seemed to be a big ask. The drinks seem interesting on paper, but the flavors are underwhelming and judging by how I felt after 3 of them, I am highly skeptical of the alcohol content. In the end, this is a no for me. Definitely bigger bangs for your buck in this neighborhood.

My friend googled the nearest place with happy hours and El Kallejon came up as an option. We arrived to this House of hoarder and pretty much sat ourselves. We asked about the happy hours and they said they didn't have one. We were already seated so we gave it the benefit of a doubt and stayed. We order white sangria for starts, we were disappointed immediately by the presentation due to the fact it had a mint in and a slice of orange. We looked over the menu, everything was very different for this Mexican infusion ? but we still picked the most appealing to us. We asked about the specials and whatever she read off her personal handbook sounded like one long gibberish of just one special. We ordered La Gringa and Harlem Style in laymans terms tasteless shrimp, chorizo, pineapple, cheese something. Then when it came to our second round my friend got a whiskey n I wanted a margarita, I asked what other flavors and the waitress sounded unsure proceeded to read off the drunk menu (tamarindo, hibiscus flowers, herbs, rose petals, jalapeno, chilly peppers) to us still sounding unsure. For a place that isn't that big they're attentiveness wasn't so great either. Finally got my margarita, and didn't get salt on the rim like a asked for. Right when we asked for the check they offered postre, my friend decided why not and got the arroz con leche. The look of confusion came over us by this what look like a small cup molding with sprinkles and green paste, my friend tasted it and was even more disappointed by the lack of taste, still don't know why it had sprinkles and once again an unnecessary mint paste at the bottom. When we finally got the bill we were appalled by how extremely expensive it was for tasteless, unsatisfying, unfilling, other than okay plate presentation it definitely wasn't worth the cost. I will never come back nor will I recommend this place to any one else.

I don't normally do reviews but this place definitely called for...

AVOID AT ALL COSTS – TORTILLA CHIPS WITH SOMEONE ELSE’S CHEWED BONES? SERIOUSLY?!

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. But unfortunately, the system forces me to give it at least one — and even that feels like a betrayal to every clean, competent restaurant out there.

We came in expecting a casual bite, nothing fancy — just some tortilla chips and dips to start. What we got instead was an abomination: halfway through the basket, we discovered eaten bones — yes, actual chewed-on chicken or ox bones — nestled in among the chips like a disgusting little surprise. These weren’t cooking mistakes or bones that slipped in by accident. These were clearly gnawed, already sucked-dry bones that looked like they came straight from another customer’s plate.

We immediately showed the staff, expecting shock, horror — anything resembling basic human decency. Instead, we got blank stares and were told, with stunning nonchalance, that we still had to pay for the meal. No apology. No refund. No sense of shame. Just the bill, handed to us like we should be grateful we weren’t charged extra for the “protein.”

This wasn’t just gross — it was unforgivable. The health violations alone should have this place shut down. And the way the staff handled it? Even worse.

BOTTOM LINE: Do not eat here unless you enjoy a side of someone else’s leftovers with your tortilla chips. Report them. Warn others. And whatever you do, don’t go near this dumpster fire of...
