Where to begin. There is a lot to unpack here. There are some moments in time that genuinely top the list, but words will fail to capture the whole experience. I will try my best to be honest and paint the best picture. We were on our second trip to NYC, walking from midtown to Brooklyn Bridge sightseeing along the way. We had just crossed the pedestrian portion of the bridge into Brooklyn when we decided it was time for a libation to reward ourselves. Using Google, we searched simply for âbreweryâ and lucky us, Evil Twin Brewing DUMBO was a few hundred paces from our location at the time. I am going to preface the next part by saying Iâve been to hundreds of breweries around the world in my time, from California, New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, Texas, Missouri, Montana, Costa Rica, Spain and Italy. Simply, I have a touchstone for quality is what I am trying to get at. Enough about me, back to the review. The space is very clean. It is clear the staff takes pride in their surroundings. The dĂŠcor is minimalist and modern. The ambience is warm and inviting. The room while big, did not get overwhelmed with sound of the bustling bar traffic. Decent acoustic atmosphere for a more industrial type of large room. THE BEER! Thatâs what this review is about. I can simply say I was blown away. Without doubt, hands down, the absolute best quality beer I have had in my 43 years of travels and life. Our table ordered a few flights and different beers, sampling sours and IPAs. The beers are not hammers to the face. The sours are balanced unbelievably well between sour and sweet. The IPA is complex and exploding with flavor. It takes a very mature hand to dial in proper complexity in IPA without sending it over the top with floral and bitter notes. In the sour and IPA game, it seems like the current trend is to come out swinging with IBU muscle. I cannot tell you how well these beers are balanced. Its nuanced and deep. Every sip tells a story. It did lack one thing, but this is the thing you donât necessarily want in your beer. That coppery kettle in the mouth funk finish, there was none. Brewers take note, this is how a beer should finish. I really canât say enough good things about this visit. It was a serendipitous decision that led to the best beer experience in my life. If you have not treated yourself to this brewery, do so. I can say without doubt you will enjoy your time. Huge shout up to Johnny our man behind the bar. He was knowledgeable and kind. Able to answer my questions at length about the brewery and beers we ordered. Thanks to my new friends at Evil Twin DUMBO. You put the crown on my...
Read moreHey friends! This review is about sustainability only. đ
By 2050, there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish. Unfortunatelyâbut also fortunatelyâit is up to both the consumer and the business to stop reckless plastic consumption at the source.
Because you are a brewery that already offers beer in real glasses, I see no reason you canât do the same for water.
It made me sad and frustrated to see a free necessary drink like water only being offered or made accessible in single use plastic.
I wonder if you can offer reusable cups alongside the water jug instead? And incorporate that into your presumably already existing dish dishwashing routine?
Especially for a brewery located so close to the water in Brooklyn, it feels imperative now more than ever for businesses like yours to empower customers to serve this environment in a more loving way.
Thank you for considering. This is a wonderful space, with tasty beer, and lovely staff. I would love to see you take that hospitality to the next level by helping us help you keep the planet more clean and...
Read moreCaught up with several friends at this bar, which is located kind of in the middle of nowhere, which isnt a fair critique but also kinda matters. Im probably not gonna be back at this location because its just too tough to get to from the east side of manhattan. Its near the spot where everybody likes to take that picture of the brooklyn bridge and do a silly pose like a tourist.
Anyways, this place has a ton of neat options for drinks. I tried quite a few. Its big. Its pretty. Its clean. Its hip. Younger crowd. My favorite drinks were the frozen cocktails. I wasnt a huge fan of most of the other things i tried, but nothing was bad and i liked the varied drink sizes, which i think encourages sampling. To make me really happy id probably knock down the cost of everything by 10-15% but thats not to say evil twins was expensive, its fairly priced and competitive within its space.. but thats my general critique of all these types of businesses. Id go back if i was a local or if it was closer to a subway, but im not local to bk so i guess...
