Let's talk about coffee here. Not like frilly, colorful drinks but real coffee. I am a specialty coffee snob and have even written for specialty coffee websites. I roast my own beans and have been for over a year.
That being said, I know what I'm looking for in a cup of coffee and a coffee shop. For Five Coffee Shop offers fresh, single origin coffees for Manhattan prices. So far, I've had their Brazil drip coffee which was surprisingly flavorful and bright. I would have perhaps roasted it a little darker to get more of the burned sugar flavors that Brazilian coffees often offer, but it was delightful.
The counter is minimal and clean, with protruding group heads and milk spouts. The utilitarian, yet pleasing setup just spoke to me. I also really liked that the tables in the back had little pillows on the benches because it made it feel more comfortable and welcoming.
The baristas were friendly and helpful. One gave me a nutella cookie which was also very good. I'm going back again and again.
Update: got a real pour over and the barista was sloppy in his technique and then didn't give the carafe. Do they only have one?! I paid $6 for a regular sized cup of coffee and he drank the rest in front of me. Very unprofessional but I may give them...
Read moreI’d like to share a review about this place, highlighting that the coffee is truly delicious and I highly recommend it; it has an excellent and very pleasant flavor. However, I’d like to mention that my experience wasn’t entirely perfect due to the customer service, which I think could improve quite a bit. The man who took my order seemed to be having a tough day, and his attitude wasn’t very warm. When I thanked him after picking up my coffee, I didn’t get any response, not even a small gesture of courtesy, which made me feel a bit uncomfortable. I believe that in a place where they serve such great coffee, the customer service should match that quality with a friendlier and more welcoming approach. I’m sure that with a bit more warmth in the service, the experience would be amazing. That’s why, although I loved the coffee, I’m giving them three stars, hoping they can improve the customer service...
Read moreI want to write a review for this place, emphasizing that the best thing here is the coffee-the coffee is really delicious, and I highly recommend it. I think it's a bit expensive; seven dollars, with the tip, comes out to about $8 or $9 for a small cup, but the flavor of the coffee is truly worth it. It's very tasty and very pleasant. However, one thing they should improve on is customer service. The staff has an attitude that's not very pleasant. In fact, when you pick up your coffee and say thank you, they don't even say "you're welcome" or anything. I think for a coffee shop, the most important thing is the hospitality, even beyond serving a really good coffee like they do here. I believe that's what they should work on to make the experience excellent-that treatment is what needs improvement. That's why I'm giving...
