Great for theater nerds! Staff helpful and friendly. With one NOTABLE exception. He was as rude as rude could be. Feeling great after viewing every exhibit closely I had trouble opening my locker. I knocked on a nearby "staff only" door. A staff member answered (at least I thought he was a staff member). He asked me to follow him to the elevator because only someone on the main floor could open the locker for me. The kind young man dropped me off at a desk inside the museum and walked away out the door to the street. That's when the fun began. An already obviously agitated employee asked what I wanted. I said I had trouble getting my bag out of a downstairs locker. He was suspicious of me from the get. ME? I'll call him the man in orange (MIO)"You walked in from the street. If you had a problem with the locker why didn't you just walk up the stairs". A reasonable question. [If one takes the elevator from the "staff only" part of the basement then you have to go out a door to the street and come back into the museum.] So I explained about seeing the "staff only" door and the young man I followed to the elevator. MIO said "I don't know him. He doesn't work here." OK. MIO took me down the stairs and I told him he seemed surprisingly suspicious of me. He replied that he was very suspicious in a threatening tone. I joked that his suspicion was kind of a compliment because I couldn't imagine anyone suspecting me of any mischief (I'm an elderly gray haired woman with a brace on my leg). Once downstairs I pointed to the "staff only" door. "That's the door I knocked on" I said. "And the man who lives behind that door offered to help me. That really rattled MIO. "He doesn't live behind that door. No one lives behind that door and I am very offended you said that." OK. MIO continued getting more excited with every word. "You better describe what's in the locker exactly" I did. He opened the locker in a flash with a key and there was my bag exactly as I described. Now maybe one would expect an apology from MIO for treating me, a customer so harshly. But no. He only said that now he would escort me out. I supposed I could have matched his anger but I thought the whole drama was kinda funny so I laughed and said I can't wait to tell friends that I was thrown out of the Museum of Broadway... me who everyone thinks is such a goodie two shoes. MIO obviously shaken said that I was not making things better and we should end the conversation there. I wonder if MIO will investigate the non-employee who answered the "staff only" door and offered assistance in such a friendly and helpful way. I can only imagine what's in...

Read moreUtterly Amazing If you love theatre, you need to visit this place. We actually found out about the Broadway Museum by accident. We never even knew there was a Broadway Museum. It's not mentioned in any of the guides we bought. It's not mentioned on any of the places we used to prebook tickets for other attractions. We were already in NY on holiday and walking down to explore Times Square, we saw it advertised on the side of a rubbish bin.
We immediately changed our plans and headed straight for it. We never bought tickets in advance, and it made no difference. Staff were amazing. Friendly and helpful, and explained how it worked.
Basically, you climb up the stairs (quite a few but worth it if you're able to). Sadly, there is no lift. You then gradually make your way round the museum until you are back down at the start. It is actually quite amazing as you really don't notice that you're descending downwards.
There are lockers available to store bags and coats, and I recommend using them.
The experience is amazing. The history of Broadway explained, how it's moved over the years, the exhibits of actual costumes worn on stage, scripts, behind the scenes insights and the interactive items all make for an amazing visit. We strolled casually around and soaked in as much as possible and spent a good 75 to 90 minutes before hitting the gift shop.
We were lucky enough to meet a few lovely actors who had been performing in the matinee and they were so friendly and lovely. We also met a set designer and then we accidentally photo bombed a director who was being interviewed on camera. I apologised immediately once ai realised. It was happening in the gift shop as they were interviewing about her new book. She was really nice and knew I never walked in front of them on purpose. I was too busy burning a hole in our credit card. (100% Guilty of spending £500+ on souvenirs for ourselves) Plus side, I got an autographed book.
There are great items available and all at reasonable prices too.
The museum is an absolute must for any theatre or...
