I am disappointed to have to write this review because I was really looking forward to trying Haven rooftop. I recently made a 7:30 pm reservation but unfortunately had gotten stuck in a tremendous amount of traffic on my way there. I called, at least 30 minutes in advance, to give the restaurant a heads up that I would likely be late. They told me there was a 15 minute grace period, and anything beyond that I would probably just have to wait for “a bit” to be seated. My date and I wound up getting there a few minutes after 8 pm. Admittedly, we should have been on time, but we weren’t.
That being said, the downstairs host checked us in and told us it would just be a few minutes. Over an hour later, we were still standing in the hotel lobby with no indication as to when our table upstairs would be ready. I circled back with the lobby hosts a number of times just for them to ask for my name EVERY TIME and radio upstairs to see what the ETA on our table was. Each time the host did not even come back to let us know how much longer (who knows if they even asked). All they kept saying was it was crowded on the rooftop and they had no control over when tables would become available. What they failed to do was admit the place was overbooked and give us the common courtesy of telling us how much longer we’d have to wait! We would have appreciated even a rough estimate. As one other guest put it, “what is the point of making a reservation?”
A number of people left because they could not take the wait anymore. And we wound up doing the same. Complete disregard for people’s time and patience, and an indifferent approach from the lobby hosts who frankly appeared as if they couldn’t care less about 20-25 people, all who had made reservations, backed up and starving in the...

Read moreThis place honestly was a little bit better before the pandemic and even so, I'd rate it 6/10
The servers aren't that attentive but it could be because of many factors, however in both instances when I went this was my experience (and I've been here pre-covid) -- I felt like they were more attentive to tourists-like guests, no harm no foul as I got to enjoy a in depth conversation with my peers but we had waited some time before we could even order our entree
PreCOVID our server was RUDE! So this second time going, my experience was a lot better- our server was sweet but I felt that perhaps their inattentiveness could be because of too much tasks on this particular night that seemed busy
As for the food....
Not sure if they changed chefs but the pasta doesn't taste the same as it used to, and even the presentation used to be different - there used to be little tiny mozerella balls all over
I wish the penne chicken pasta was a little better, more sauce maybe
This feels more like a place to drink rather than to eat, the highlight of my meal was the truffle fries which came in a HUGE basket
The prices are fair for what 42nd street area prices are
Despite my recent critiques regarding server staff attentiveness, I will say the administrative staff are very accommodating- I made a reservation online on open table easily & r they were able to accommodate my original 2 person reservation for a 3 person reservation
The wait to be seated wasn't long at all
My best advice would be, maybe don't get the pasta --- definitely splurge on the truffle fries, make sure you make a reservation in advance as walk in seating do have to wait 49-60 min, and come here...
