If you want to stay near the excitement of Times Square and Broadway, this is THE place! TS is so loud and overwhelming, but when you turn on to 46th toward the hotel, the noise is drastically reduced. It is very strange. This is so important because we felt that our trip to NYC was very draining with all of the various sights, smells, and sounds that never seemed to stop. Once you enter the lobby, it is gorgeous and all of that intensity melts away. Never had to wait for an elevator. Front desk was very nice. The hotel is so calming compared to everything outside.
If you are not used to NYC, this hotel room will be quite a bit smaller than an average hotel. However, we stayed in room 1103 (letting you know if you want to request this particular room), and this room happened to be on its own wall in the hallway. It was very LONG. It has a long corridor once you open your hotel room door. This was an extra bonus as it muffled any potential hallway noise! The rooms were very clean and cute. Our view overlooked the top of the church across the street, and the Haven rooftop bar which was kind of fun to people-watch. The lights of TS cast a very slight flashing light show onto our window sill, but this was no big deal and the room had very effective blackout curtains.
This room had a mini-fridge. We booked a standard room through Priceline. Some reviews and descriptions mentioned that this is a stocked honor bar, but ours was just an empty mini fridge which we appreciated so we could put cold drinks in there. The room had no microwave and no coffee maker. However, we called down and requested a coffee maker, and a Keurig and coffee pods were sent up to us! So just know that you can ask for that. There is food everywhere once you step out of the hotel, so we found we didn't need a microwave or many snacks for that matter.
The shower is incredible. It has one of those large overhead rain-style showerheads, but also had a secondary handheld sprayer. The toiletries were very nice too.
I am a light sleeper so I switched the fan onto "on" instead of "auto," which helped mask any additional outside noise, although there really wasn't much of that on 46th Street. You might have to reset the fan to "on" daily - housekeeping either resets it, or it goes into eco-mode maybe and switches back to auto? Some noises I heard overnight were a few car honks, truck backing up beeps, an ambulance, and a very light jack-hammering tinkering noise. But this was like maybe once or twice a night. However, the fan drowned these out once I figured out this hack. The whole hotel room was so quiet.
They also had complimentary coffee in the lobby, but I didn't try that. I was charged an extra "Destination Fee" upon checkout, on top of what I had already paid Priceline. At this point, why grumble? Once you see how crazy and expensive everything is in NYC, it's no big deal. Plus, this hotel was so nice in contrast to the city, I was fine with it.
Check out Amor Loco next door (pink and turquoise restaurant). It had excellent...
Read moreHotel- Kimpton Muse (NYC) Date- 23july – 25july 2020 (2 nights) Overall: Excellent. A stylish boutique hotel with an amazing staff. Accommodations- Excellent. I was assigned an ‘Executive King Suite’ on the top floor, which was very nice. The room was spacious, clean, & quiet, something not always so easily found when staying so close to Times Square. Decorative pillows, the minibar, the notepad & pencil, and any other high touch items were removed due to the pandemic. IHG Rewards Club Recognition- Excellent. Upon check in I was thanked for my loyalty and given amenity points. My room was upgraded. Staff- Excellent. The staff makes the hotel. I come to this hotel because of the attention, care, and genuine enthusiasm of the staff members. Year after year, when I do, I know that staff members like Daniel & Angel will do their best to take care of me, my spouse, and even my pet. I was impressed when doorman Wilson was even able to identify my cat’s uncommon species. I can’t say enough good things about them. Thank you, front desk! Housekeeping- Very good. At first glance, the room seemed immaculate. However, old candy wrappers left under the sofa did end up in my pet’s mouth, which could have easily led to an emergency. The carpet was clean otherwise, and the bathroom was sparkling clean, better than most hotels I’ve stayed at in the area. Although housekeeping during the stay is discontinued during the pandemic, the hotel checked with me my second day to ensure I had all the supplies I might need. Towels and washcloths, soaps & shampoos, etc. were all provided in adequate supply for the length of my stay. Pool/Gym- Not evaluated. Breakfast/Meal Options- ALL food and beverage service is suspended. Since congregating in the lobby is prohibited, the wine hour was suspended, but the hotel front desk did provide us with two small bottles of wine to consume in our room. Morning coffee service was unavailable; so, plan to leave the hotel to gather any food or beverage you may want. Laundry- Not evaluated. Computer/Printer/WiFi- Excellent. WiFi was strong throughout the hotel, and streaming was smooth. Property Appearance- Excellent. The scaffolding in the front is decorated, and the lobby is clean and attractive. The hallways and elevators were clean and appealing. Other- Valet Parking is suspended during the pandemic. Parking at a neighboring garage is suggested and the $35 daily fee is added to the bill, instead of having to pay the...
Read moreThe hotel is in a good location, and once inside, the lobby is clean and modern. The room was also clean, tidy, modern and spacious. We arrived early and the hotel staff kindly looked after our bags until it was time to check-in. The breakfast staff on our last morning were very friendly and attentive.
Based on the hotel reviews, we were looking forward to staying here, unfortunately from that point onwards, the service received at this hotel is the worst I have received in all hotels I've ever stayed at; plus the breakfast prices are extortionate for the available food options.
My partner returned to the hotel to check-in alone, but the check-in service was awful. My gf was simply given the room key, no friendly welcome and no information about the hotel amenities or area. Instead of offering any assistance with the two luggage bags, she was simply told the room number.
When I arrived to the counter, I explained it was my partners 21st Bday and thought it would be nice if we could return to the room after midnight, with the balloons, banner and cake I'd just bought. We've stayed at so many hotels where they go out of their way to help celebrate anniversaries and birthdays, yet this is the ONLY hotel where they wanted to charge a rediculous amount of money just to put some balloons in a room! I didn't feel like a valued customer at all.
One evening, we noticed the fire alarm must have been faulty or running low on battery because it was periodically beeping loudly. I asked if it could be looked at, but at 05:00 in the morning, the beeping started again. When I spoke to the staff in the morning, I was reassured the issue would be fixed the second time. When we returned to the room in the evening, we noticed they had simply removed our ceiling fire alarm and one was not replaced for the remainder of our stay.
I was delighted to hear I had 50 dollars of credit left on our last morning (one of the things we never knew about because the staff never told us we had 10 dollars of credit per night). So on our last morning I thought we'd have breakfast at the hotel. I was surprised for the 2 of us the 50 dollars still didn't cover breakfast and we would have to pay an additional 13 dollars because of the additional charges - the breakfast food options at this hotel are seriously limited for what they charge you.
Overall, I would never stay here ever again and I never thought I'd say that about a hotel that had such a lovely...
