Finding decent coffee in America has been like finding a needle in a haystack. I didn’t realise when you size up in America, most places here don’t actually increase the espresso shots from regular to large. You typically get two shots for a regular, and two shots for a large. So the rest is milk….. go figure?
THIS CAFE IS THE FIRST PLACE SINCE VISITING THAT ACTUALLY DOES THE JOB PROPERLY! Bud, I have been everywhere - and not the basic franchise places like Starbucks. When I asked how many espresso shots they included in their large, I was stoked to know i didn’t need to pay more for a large and additional on top for enough coffee so that I wasn’t just drinking milk. Decent tasting coffee, and the staff are one of the nicest I’ve met in NYC. Ended up tipping the amount I would normally pay extra elsewhere for the additional coffee shots, definitely worth it and definitely recommend.
*i know the number of espresso shots sounds like such a basic thing but if you’re Australian in America, you get it. If you haven’t been yet, you’ll thank me for this review if you ever decide to visit haha!
Also, i do not recommend the food from the neighbour ‘fresh from hell’, I ordered the oats and would say they weren’t the best tasting oats I have had. Fresh orange juice was nice but came out hot with no ice. No comment on anything...

Cozy little cafe whose stark white walls are warmed with wooden counters, floors, stools. A clothing boutique in the space's previous incarnation, now a cafe serving good coffee on a quieter street in the theater district. So it's a fabulous pre-show pre-dinner (they close at 6) rendezvous point, and a delicious, down-to-earth respite from the soul-suck that is the hustle and bustle of Times Square.
Drip is Guatemala, espresso is Ethiopian/Brazilian, roasted by Dallis Bros (LIC). Pastries which they happily offer to heat for you are from Bien Cuit (Brooklyn). A small mini fridge stocks non-coffee options like San Pellegrino, Zico coconut water, etc.
Frisson Cafe opened two weeks ago. It is Tulian's first cafe venture, after his years of technical experience repairing espresso machines! And Robert, who owned a bodega before, totally nailed my latte, art and all, on his first day pulling shots & pouring. These are friendly guys, passionate about their new craft, and I fully support...
Read moreAs a small business owner myself, I strive to make purchases from small businesses in NYC and not large chains.
Frisson is a TERRIFIC small business coffee shop. There coffee is flat out AMAZING. The owner explained to me the careful process he uses to purchase beans, which come form another small business in Brooklyn.
I work from home as an eBay seller and selling consultant, so I like to step away from my desk several times a day, and stopping by Frisson is a favorite destination.
I've had their cappuccino, lattes, hot chocolate and chocolate chip cookies. All terrific.
I've had children with me for a few visits, as they love Frisson hot chocolate. The staff is SUPERB with kids. I mention this as not all Manhattan eateries are the greatest with kids,
Seating is available but very limited. But that being said, the few times I've met seller friends for a coffee we've always been able to grab a seat. Our favorite table is the one right by the window. There is also 1 table with two chairs right outside.
When you're in the area, stop by. It's well worth it. You will not be...
