Let me just preface this by saying that I am a huge fan of Eli having been to many of his events in the past, so it is quite shocking and disappointing that I am writing this review. I had heard good things about Eli's new club but hadn't experienced it yet, so I decided to brave the rain, forego other July 4th festivities, and go solo to experience Gabriela for the first time. However, when I arrived at ~11 PM, I (along with a group of 5 other guys who got there ahead of me) was turned away quite condescendingly by the bouncer (oldish, bald, gay (?) dude with glasses) for who knows what reason. It makes no sense since the venue seemed quite empty actually... like I said, this was around 11 PM, on Thursday July 4th when people were doing other festivities, and it was raining as well. Only other explanation is the bouncer was discriminating based on race, gender, or sexuality. I do not identify as a woman or a gay white male unfortunately. Eli, please remove this clown from their position lest others have have the same awful experience I just had. The RA description for this event says "Everyone is welcome, unless they are unwelcoming", and I made the trek to experience Gabriela BECAUSE of the seemingly inclusive atmosphere and LOVE for music/humanity/life that seemed to be part of its ethos (this was Romance Thursday for gods sake). Now I am instead left with a bad taste in my mouth, and talking to others I have heard similar stories. If the ethos of Gabriela now supports discrimination and a culture of exclusion, please update the RA description so music and people lovers like me can avoid this place and don't have to deal with this ever again.
Edit: Sad that this review continues to get likes every Thursday/weekend. Management here clearly doesn’t care and this will continue to help a problem….
Edit 2: 40 likes and counting, what is even...
Read moreJust saw a security guard wearing panda nikes and a fake ass badge necklace assaulting an unconscious drunk man who had passed out outside on the sidewalk. I read the other numerous 1 star reviews, im not talking about the old bald bitter bouncer who is racist and aggressive. This is an entirely different aggressive bald employee who i am referring to in this review. Patron/Victim was unconscious, limp and alone outside on the sidewalk, probably after being over served at this establishment. Security guard was yanking him, pulling him, dragging him and dropping him. His objective was to move the mans body far enough from the bar so that the bar would no longer be liable for the mans condition. Security guard dragged patron’s limp body across the sidewalk, allowing his head to fall freely onto a fire hydrant. Security was refusing to call ambulance because he didn't want authorities to know the bar was over serving. Security was yanking patron angrily and aggressively, directing comments like “yo stop playing” to patrons limp unresponsive body. I wouldn't be surprised if the patron has a dislocated shoulder from the treatment he was receiving from this security guard. It was one of the most disturbing things I've ever seen and I'm really worried about the over-served patron. When i tried to intervene Security guard was combative. I regret not calling for help due to bystander effect and i have to live with that. I spoke up but when the security guard became aggressive with me also, my company urged me to not get involved and very stupidly i relented. It was terrible. 10/27/24 about...
Read moreI’ll meet a friend or two here for a drink, sink into a comfy banquette and catch up. Then we’re off to the dance floor to sweat while being engulfed by an incredible sound system and bathed in dreamy dynamic lighting. The music is almost guaranteed to be great when you have NY’s best DJ at the helm and spinning every Thursday. The roster is stacked with legends and global phenoms just casually showing up for a sexy midweek set. Also, they book excellent up-and-comers. A lot of people complain about issues at the door, but the truth is— depending on how busy it is inside, if you come correct you won’t have a problem. Respect the door people!! They have been responsible for curating some of the best most diverse crowds at legendary spots like Submercer and Battle Hymn. They cannot and will not let everyone in. Show up with a smile and positivity. Also, try to look the part, like you belong in one of NYC’s most interesting, diverse, creative crowds. Don’t show up looking like a Williamsburg transplant finance bro. One more tip: go with 2-3 ppl, because getting in with a big group is going to be hard. I have been going out in nyc for 20+ years and it always amazes me when people think they can roll up, with attitude while looking/ acting incredibly basic and entitled and then get pissed that they have to wait in line or get rejected at the door. It’s nyc, try to act like you’re from here even...
