I walked into Gelato Factory around 6:45pm on a Wednesday, since it was hot and I had business in the area. The space is terrific, and it can seat about 15 people, which is a rarity for this type of shop. I could not tell the difference between this gelato and any cheaper gelato, but it was still tasty. Paying $7 + tax for such a small scoop is overpriced, though comparable with other places.
My two big "issues" with Gelato Factory are more about how the business runs. They have such a nice big space, so I think they could utilize it by putting flavor descriptions somewhere. I could understand if they just had standard flavors, but they do have some interesting mix-ins that could benefit from listing the components. This may help for allergen purposes and for people to select flavors to sample that they actually like. For example, the crumble cheesecake had a weird licorice flavor gummy component that I have never experienced in a cheesecake before.
The other thing is presentation. I will admit that the person who made my gelato was training, but as you can see from the picture, the presentation is awful. If you are charging over $5 for a single scoop of something, it better have the best flavors ever or be presented well. The seating area can lend itself to customers taking good photos, but the product should also look amazing.
Overall, I would stop by again if I was in the area, but I wouldn't go out of...
Read moreGelato Factory is where you can get freshly made creamy Italian gelato on the UWS! The cafe is decorated so cute, and has so much natural light shining through their large windows. We got the orange peel, ferrero rocher, and flavor of the day: mixed fruit sorbet. Our favorites were definitely the orange peel & ferrero rocher - SO accurate and delicious. They sell gelato between $7-11 for 2-4 scoops. You can also opt for a take away a box to go: choose 3 flavors for $18 (small) or 4 flavors for $36 (large). We opted for the small and had a mini gelato party with a couple other friends (making 5 cups total). They gave us to-go cones, spoons, and cups - everything’s thought of. I’ll definitely be back to try the...
Read moreThere are a lot of great ice cream and gelato places in the area and this is not one of them. After eating this, I had one of the worst stomach aches of my adult life (which rarely happens to me) and it woke me up in the middle of my sleep. The flavors were quite average (some below) and the ambiance was not appealing even from the outside. Skip this and go up a few blocks to any of the other gelato/ice cream places and you’ll probably be better for it.
Also, i was already buying quite a bit of ice cream, and they tried to upsell me. Very unprofessional...
