This place has great gelato, but I've noticed over the past year that their prices have creeped up and portions have shrunk substantially.
Opening month, their size range was kids ($4-5), small, medium, and large. The kids size was a tiny cup but honestly plenty for just a small quick serving and they even let adults get them. Understandably, that policy shifted and adults had to get a small at minimum (for around $5-6). Fine, I get it, gotta stay profitable and of course opening month they're puling all the stops to make a good neighborhood impression. A small or even a medium was still reasonable around $7 and they would pack in the gelato with each cup.
Fast forward to last week, about a year or so after they opened. Kid and Small size is gone completely. The minimum size to order is a "Regular" for $8.25, but this size is what the kid size used to be! They used to offer a little waffer cookie on top and that seems to have been phased out. Same with their punch card system (started out as a buy-ten, get one gelato free, morphed into get a coffee free, now punch cards are gone).
I'm not trying to be a size queen here either. A small (now a "regular") is still plenty for me and obviously this is one of the most expensive places in the country to run a business. But now I'm paying nearly $10 for a tiny scoop of gelato and it just seems sort of crazy.
One positive development I'll end on is that they've really worked on the presentation of their gelato tubs. Now they're each topped with all the fixings that they mix in and it looks more "premium" I suppose. It's summer now so I'm sure they're going through product and staying more busy. Hopfully they stay around and keep tweaking...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAs a non-vegan, soft-serve/ice cream lover, who has tried about 50 places in NYC already⦠Iāve got to say this place is not spoken about enough. I usually prefer ice cream over gelato, and regular ice cream over vegan alternatives, but I was shocked to enjoy their VEGAN dark chocolate and VEGAN pistachio so much! They also have regular/classic pistachio gelato if you still would rather have original pistachio. The cappuccino, Ferraro Rocher and Bueno Kinder are also incredibly delicious. In all honesty, any flavor you choose (depending on your personal preference) is set to leave you satisfied. The staff at this location, as opposed to the 1st avenue location, was also so kind and patient. As of right now, this place ranks very highly on my list of places to have gelato in the city. As an aside, I personally am not a huge fan of Biscoff cookies, but if you are, then I would highly recommend their...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLast Saturday, I accidentally left my purse at Gelatoville and didnāt realize until a whole week later (yes⦠really dumb of meš®āšØ). Today, I went back to ask if it might still be there, and to my surprise, the girl at the counter told me she was glad I came back ā because they had kept it safe for me all week!!!
I was so excited and relieved that I forgot to ask her name, but I want to give a huge thank you to her, the manager, and everyone who was working at the store that day. Everything in my wallet was still there, which means so much to me.
And just to be clear, this isnāt only because of the incident ā the gelato here is genuinely AMAZING. The tiramisu and pistachio with berries flavors I had were absolutely delicious𤤠Highly recommend both the gelato and the wonderful,...
