Honest Review. Brilliant.||Just returned back from our stay at the Theta hotel. We stayed 1st-5th Jan 2025. Booked as a package with flights direct with British Airways. ||This hotel is overall, fantastic. Modern, warm, welcoming, where everything has been thought about and covered. The ONLY negative I can mention about our stay has to be the noise levels in our rooms, which isnât really anyoneâs fault, itâs one of those things with a lower room. If we were in higher rooms, our stay would have been completely faultless. ||We arrived right on check in time at 3pm, a little queue at the check in desk to be expected, but from getting out the cab to in our rooms was no more then 15 minutes. Princess on the check in desk was super friendly and welcoming and was throughout our entire stay. On arrival, with most USA hotels with had to put down a security deposit (no one in our party has credit cards, but the hotel accepts visa / debit card, so this was no issue at all) The deposit was $100 per room per night (about average for NYC) this is just a hold on your account and doesnât not actually come out as a payment. ||We were a party of 4, across 2 rooms, both on the same floor which was handy. The rooms were a really good size, in fact HUGE for NYC rooms, we have previously stayed in NYC hotels which were tiny. Plenty of storage and a good size bathroom with complimentary toiletries. Massive TVâs with good channels, fridge and good sized safe, huge, super comfy beds with quality linen. We were on the 4th floor which had pros and cons, great for people watching out the window and easy to pop up and down quickly in the lifts however, it was noisy, really noisy, which did make our sleep not that great, we are seasoned travellers to NYC and understand that itâs the city that never sleeps, but do feel that the sound proofing, practically the windows could be much improved, on the lower floors at least to makes guests staying in those rooms stays that much more comfortable - Sirens, horns and banging from garbage carts and deliveries all through the night was not great but understand itâs one of those things with a lower room - we ended up leaving the TV on low to try and muffle the sound of the streets out. ||The roof top bar on level 15 is fabulous and well worth a visit, with great views day & night, open all year round too! They even put on free wine every day 5pm-6pm up there! The roof top bar does food too, coffee ect. Free coffee 7am â 8am in the lobby too, which is such a nice place to sit and have a hot drink before heading out for the day. The hotel also provides FREE bike rental, and luggage storage, so you can make the most of the city if you have early flight in or a late flight home. ||Location is fab, we visited the places right opposite, the diner was great for breakfast, Chinese was delicious, and the Sir Henryâs Irish bar was brilliant, and the deli/market was super handy for grabbing those night time snacks or pizza slice on the way back! And thereâs a gift shop too. Loads of pizza places, coffee places and shops a stones throw away either side of the entranceâŚ||Walking everywhere was no problem from this hotel |Times Square 10 mins |Empire State 10 mins |Rockefeller 10 mins |Madison Square Garden 15/20 mins |The Edge 15/20 mins |Central Park 20/25 mins ||Checkout is 12.30, we had a night time flight home, so asked Princess on the desk about a late checkout, which was available for our room, so we had an extra 3 hours, charged $25 per hour ($75 in total for what we wanted) this was really handy as it enabled us to make the most of our last day, and go out and about, and come back for showers ect before the long journey back to the UK later that night, for us it was worth the money, this was charged to the card we put down for the security deposits.||Checkout was smooth and quick, of course we had the dreaded resort/destination fee to pay, which if you are not familiar with this may come as shock to you, this is really common in NYC and not alwaysâ s mentioned on booking or at check in, Itâs usually around $30-$40 per room per night, but as we have been to NYC several times before we expected to have to pay this, which again was charged to the card we used on check in. It probably would be beneficial for the hotel to mention this on check in or on the booking confirmations, so itâs not a surprise to new visitors to the city, and to allow guests to budget for this too in advance. ||We have now been home for a week, the money on hold in my account for the security deposits has already been released back in to my account, which is really quick, using a debit/visa card can take up to a month, so Iâm pleased its back in there so quickly. ||We would 100% recommend this hotel to anyone, and if we returned to NYC again would stay here again for sure, just maybe request a higher room if possible. But overall a fantastic stay in this hotel,...
Read moreThe Kimpton Theta is listed in the IHG portal as a five star hotel. It is not. A five star hotel, by definition, is one that knows what you want before you know you want or need it. With that said, the Theta is one of the better mid-level hotels in the Times Square area. It is located just outside the busiest and noisiest areas while still being convenient to everything in and outside of Times Square. The hotel is also small enough that it feels a bit more intimate than most larger hotels. The lobby is clean and inviting and not overly crowded with guests. The elevators were readily available throughout the day. The staff at check-in were polite but not overly welcoming. After checking in, we asked for an extra blanket which, after two additional requests, came two days into our stay. I also had to request that the pillows and bedding be changed to down alternative. I do have 'no feathers' in my profile and include this in all of my notes upon booking. Front desk staff did tell us about coffee and tea in the lobby but didn't not tell us about the evening gathering or breakfast buffet in the hotel restaurant (price not included in stay for breakfast). Our room was on a high floor and was an expanded King. It was very clean and well stocked. The bed was comfortable and the noise from the street was slight. I do recommend using the in room sound machine or bringing your own. The phone in our room did not work so I had to go downstairs each time I needed something. The air conditioning was adjustable but we found that it was too cold even when set at '80'. We turned it off and only ran it for a few minutes each day during our stay to circulate the air in the room. The room, according to the thermostat, stayed a comfortable 74 degrees without the AC running. Also, when it was on, the AC ran constantly and didn't appear to cycle through like most units. Again, we were comfortable. The bath linens were adequate, a bit worn and frayed. The water in the bathroom was hot and the shower pressure was adequate. We were supposed to have an umbrella in our room but it was not there and the front desk did not have any extras. Room service staff were friendly and did a great job turning over the room each day. We ended up staying an extra night because of a flight cancelation and we were given the same room that we checked out of earlier that day. What was most disappointing was that the management refused to re-open our folio from earlier that day. We had stayed 3 nights prior and this would have given us the 4th night for free. Another IHG rewards member staying at the hotel told us that they had done that for her for the same reason. She was Diamond Elite and we are only Platinum Elite so that may have affected the decision. We used points instead and that was not an issue. What is interesting is that when we returned to our same room we found that additional amenities had been added that included a live plant, actual glassware instead of paper cups and better bath linens. that included a live plant, actual glassware instead of paper cups and better bath linens. We were told upon returning that the bottled water in the room in aluminum cans was 'free' and that refill stations were available on each floor at the ice machine. We did not know that during our previous three-night stay. In addition, we were told about the cocktail hour and the breakfast buffet. We did take advantage of the breakfast buffet the for convenience and found a nice variety of fruit, yogurt, granola, pastries, scrambled eggs, potatoes, etc. We were told ahead of time that drinks were extra but, to our surprise, coffee, tea and juice were part of the buffet. We enjoyed the roof-top restaurant and wished we had known more about it on our previous nights' stay. Service there was excellent. My kudos to Nouea at the front desk for making our last (hectic) night more pleasurable and for being kind and welcoming. If every hotel had a Nouea at the front desk, the world would be a better place! We will definitely stay here...
Read moreThey keep reporting my review but Iâll keep posting it! I recently stayed at this hotel and would not recommend it for those who are looking for a place to stay for more than a weekend. I stayed here for a total of 9 days and had issues almost every day with the room. I would also not recommend this hotel to anyone that has allergies specifically pets as they allow pets here.
Upon arrival I had 3 suitcases and a large bag, it was struggle to get in the hotel as there was no one around to help, the doors are hard to get into. The person that did check me in was nice but to get there was a struggle.
After checking in and getting to the room, my sheets were dirty so they had to change the sheets right away. The cleaning staff was very nice and apologetic but it was still the first impression I got of the room.
The cleaning standards of the hotel are ok but not thorough enough for a place that allows pets. If you look closely in the rooms and common areas there is a lot of dust and dirt in the corners etc so basic cleanings are what these rooms get. I broke out in hives almost daily and was uncomfortable my entire stay. There was only one worker, Giselda that honored my requests for gloves the rest did not, nor do they wash their hands etc between rooms.
One recommendation for the hotel is to dedicate one floor to where no pets are allowed and have a cart for cleaning stuff that does not come in contact with pets. This place has tons of carpet everywhere and pet friendly hotels should not have carpet in them at all.
In addition to cleanliness issues that caused hives outbreaks, my room also had weird a/c problems. The a/c vent would shoot out a lot of dust when it would cut itself back on so even though I keep my stuff in my suitcases I really had to make sure my stuff stayed in them so my clothes can stay clean.
The bed also doesnât have the right amount of sheets on it, it is missing a flat sheet that you can lay on so that you donât have to have the duvet and its cover touching you. The duvet insert also doesnât have a cover and is only covered by sheets so I am pretty certain this hotel will have a bed bug problem soon. And the duvet not having a proper cover is probably another cause of my hives in addition to pet dander because no telling when the last time the duvet insert was washed.
The TV only worked only one or two days the entire time I was here luckily for me I had my iPad with me so I was able to watch tv on that. I called them about it and they said itâs because of the weather. The internet also was patchy I was not able to have a smooth working experience on the days that I worked out of the hotel.
The shower also needed to be ran for several minutes just to get it to the right temperature, the walls are thin and there was a consistent weed smell in the hallways. I also had like 2 instances of staff walking in without knocking so after that I kept the top part locked which I should have done after the first incident.
The room also does not have a microwave, however toward the end of my stay I learned that one could be requested but no one told me that on day one. The room does not have bottles of water or any small convenience items that are in other hotels. They donât have a restaurant or anything other than a free wine offering from 5-6 pm which is nice but thatâs about it.
The night before I was to check out I went down to see if I could do a late check out or see what the process was to extend my stay a day and was met with the meanest, most unprofessional woman ever. She gave lowkey racist vibes so I just ended up booking at a different hotel. Also at check in, I was told by the gentleman that checked me in that I wouldnât be charged anything because I paid in advanced so they just needed to do a security hold on a card for $900. But at checkout I had a $362 charge! Please be upfront with fees and train your staff accordingly.
All in all, it is more of a 3 star hotel than anything. 100% would not...
