My recent visit to The Georgia Room at Freehand Hotel was unfortunately not the experience I had hoped for. As a frequent patron of New York City's nightlife, I was taken aback by the treatment my group and I received at this establishment.
Upon arriving at The Georgia Room, my party of three men was denied entry based solely on our appearance and the absence of female companions. This policy felt out of touch with the inclusive and diverse atmosphere that NYC has come to represent in 2023.
In a city that prides itself on its welcoming nature and celebration of individuality, encountering a discriminatory entry policy was both surprising and disappointing. The spirit of progress and equality that defines NYC seemed to be absent within the walls of The Georgia Room.
I had anticipated a memorable night at The Georgia Room, considering its reputation and affiliation with Freehand Hotel. However, the discriminatory entry denial cast a shadow over the entire experience. It's my hope that The Georgia Room will reconsider their policies to align with the values that make NYC a beacon of diversity and acceptance.
In conclusion, my visit to The Georgia Room at Freehand Hotel was marked by an unfortunate encounter that contradicted the very essence of New York City, our home! I remain hopeful that as we move forward, nightlife venues will embrace a more inclusive approach that reflects the true spirit of NYC, the city we all work so hard to be able...
Read moreIt was fun dancing once the space cleared up a bit Saturday night, very crowded, and there was a great mix of old and new Latin music, however the bouncer last night was disrespectful and borderline homophobic. After my friend and I showed we paid to the lady, the man behind her at the door put his hands on me, touched my face and and my lower waist. He told me I needed to put my headphones inside of my purse and they would check my purse, it was brief and it didn’t feel sexual but I got the impression he felt entitled to put his hands on me because I’m queer/femme presenting, he wouldn’t have done that to one of the masculine/straight men in line. This has never happened to me at any queer/lgbt+ friendly bars and clubs. It made me really uncomfortable and I don’t know why he had to touch me instead of just using his words. Please be kinder to your customers, I came to dance with my friends-not to receive unsolicited touching...
Read moreHorrible security and bathroom attendants!!! I am non binary and when I went to use the woman’s bathroom (the space I feel most comfortable) and 3 separate times a different security person came to the bathroom stall door I was in and banged on the door telling me that “the man has to leave the restroom.” Each time I told them that I am non binary and each time they apologized, yet it happened time and time again. After I tried to address the people that completely disrespected me and I told them that I am non binary, the bathroom attendant told me that “they don’t believe in those things” and then they tried to chauffeur me to a private restroom for handicap people. At that point I was extremely uncomfortable and offended, I knew I wasn’t going to be able to enjoy my time there even though my friends had gotten a table. I am completely offended and I highly advise against going to any party...
