came to Hungry House via a promotion —the newish restaurant serving up an inviting menu created by various chefs across several different cuisines. ended up ordering an Oklahoma Burger (smashed patties, American cheese, onions, pickles, lettuce, special sauce on a double sesame seed bun)—home-style burger, simple ingredients, and satisfying from first bite to last. also ordered the bbq chicken bowl with broccoli and mushrooms over quinoa with an aioli sauce on the side—ample serving and everything tasted fresh and of quality. lastly, i ordered up a side of pasta salad but the folks at Hungry House generously made it a full-sized serving of pasta with Goddess dressing and topped it with two pieces of seared salmon….the salmon was really well prepared and complemented the pasta salad. honestly, I was really impressed by the quality of dishes and the wide variety of them offered on the menu. even the pickiest of eaters can be sated at Hungry House.
there are several tables for dine-in but it seems like most orders are takeout as several people came in and orders to-go while I was there. the staff were pleasant and packaged up my order really neatly. really a good spot if you need variety of fish options...
Read moreVery solid choice when looking to eat plant based foods in the city. To make the entire menu gluten free is amazing all on its own. Chicken was spot on. The drinks were amazing. The mac n cheese could be cheesier and the “bacon” could use some work. It looks almost like burnt chunks so it is not visually appealing but all these things can be worked out an updated later. Also, the waffle is ok when made fresh. The corn flavor compliments the savory foods. But we went there a second time and took for the first time a non-vegan person who has never been to a vegan restaurant, to impress them and the waffles we got were cold, dry and stale. We immediately saw the disgust in our friend’s face and lost a possible convert but oh well. Now, here is why I deducted the 1 star from what would have been a perfect score. Price. Many items on the menu are near the $20 range with NO SIDE. Now, I understand it’s a new place, it’s on Lexington in the middle of the city and the rent has to be insane but $20 dollars for 1 item is nearly insane to me. But I hope it strives and it’s on the right path to be an amazing place....
Read moreLearned about this restaurant on the FLIRTING with Vegan food tour. First we are omnivores and true foodies. We operate a food tour with authentic Cuban food.. but we are open to trying new flavors, combination of ingredients.
This place was great. I was fascinated in learning the "vegan BBQ meat" is the unripened jackfruit. As a native Floridian I know what a jackfruit is. It's huge. But of course only tasted it when it's ripe. The shredded "meat" was cleverly cooked with BBQ sauce. Yes a bit heavy on vinegar side but that was great otherwise they tend to have loads of sodium which often makes vegan prepared foods unhealthy. So in this case it was healthy and tasty and I loved it.
We met the chef who is from Austin Texas where they know BBQ and she appeared on the show Hells Kitchen.
We had the Nachos. And can't wait to return to try their waffles and...
