Gouie — Restaurant in New York

The omakase menu at Gouie was an incredible experience. It was our first time doing omakase anywhere. Gouie is located on the lower level of the amazing Essex Market. Making a reservation is a good idea since it's a small counter, although it feels private still with the location. The fish quality was the freshest I've ever had, it melts in your mouth. Each piece is prepared with the finest quality and attention to detail. It was also very diverse, a few types of fish we hadn't tried or seen offered before. They offered still or sparkling water and ensured our glasses were always full. The included green tea was also a refreshing way to begin our day as we drove out to Long Island. Everything about Gouie was a true joy, and I hope to go back the next time...

If you like sake then Gouie is a must.

Other people have mentioned the very affordable sushi options, and yes, the sushi was indeed delicious and budget friendly, but it was the sake offerings and knowledgeable server that really won me over.

I love sake, and Gouie absolutely knows their stuff. Ryo, our server, was very friendly and enthusiastic, and I could absolutely tell that he wanted to share his knowledge about sake.

Gouie offers super small tasting pours to help you find something that you'll like, and they have a much wider array of sake styles to try, so you're sure to find something that agrees with your palate.

My boyfriend surprised me with a date night at Guie. Initially, everything was spot on. The food was delicious, staff served our table was super friendly and attentive. However, things took a turn when I ordered additional dishes. It seemed to annoy the chef, and the chef ended up YELLING at me LOUDLY. It really put a damper on my evening. I'm very upset and confused. We were genuinely enjoying the meal and had no hesitation in paying for the additional orders. At no point were we informed of any policy against ordering additional items. This unexpected response cast a shadow over what was an otherwise delightful...
