Prices keep going up. :( Prior review: Had french toast and bacon AND two scrambled eggs, bacon and home fries today and the French toast was moist and yummy... not dry like some places. Crispy bacon was delish. . The eggs were a little overcooked for me but the home fries were the best I have ever eaten anywhere in nyc. They were outstanding!!! I'd go just for the home fries that's how good they were. I always get a sandwich here but breakfast is also really good. Prior review: Went back today, and the Cuban Sandwich is still amazing! Maybe even better than before. They truly have the midas touch here when it comes to sandwiches. "Samich" is now $11 but well worth it and i brought half home. Fries included. Btw, they have the absolute BEST coffee in NYC. --------- I love it here but they should slice the pork thinner for the cuban sandwich. It's a great sandwich but a sandwich isn't a pork chop! ---------- The steak sandwich is incredible!!! Philly has NOTHING on this NYC/Domincan creation of tender beef, sautéed green peppers and onions with your choice of cheese, lettuce, tomato, mayo, etc. on a deliciously crunchy pressed and toasted roll. El Castillo makes a killer cuban but this steak sandwich is off the charts! Comes with fries for around $8.00. Seriously, there should be a battle of sandwiches between this and Phillys best. I'm telling you, El Castillo would win. (One caveat: the older woman makes the best sandwiches. The man does not not.) ‐---------------- I ordered the cuban sandwich and it was amazing! Incredibly tender pork, ham, gooey melted cheese, pickles and mayo on perfectly toasted bread. One of the best I've eaten here in the city. Huge sandwich and it comes with fries. I couldn't finish it! All for $8.00!!! Best lunch bargain around. Great service. I wish i asked for the servers name because she was wonderful. She also prepared the sandwich. Great LES spot just a a few blocks from the train.

The restaurant specializes in traditional Dominican cuisine, serving up delicious dishes that are both flavorful and affordable. One of the first things that stands out about El Castillo de Jagua is its warm and welcoming atmosphere. The restaurant has a cozy feel, making it a great spot for a casual meal with friends or family. The staff is friendly and attentive, always ready to make recommendations and ensure that diners have an enjoyable experience. The menu at El Castillo de Jagua is extensive, featuring a range of appetizers, entrees, and desserts. Some of the standout dishes include the mofongo (a traditional Dominican dish made with mashed plantains), the chicharron de pollo (crispy fried chicken), and the arroz con pollo (chicken and rice). Our favorite is the mangu. We drive over 70miles to come here to eat mangu. The portions are generous, making it a great spot for sharing dishes or taking leftovers home. Another great aspect of El Castillo de Jagua is its affordability. Prices are very reasonable for the quality and quantity of food served, making it a great option for those on a budget. The restaurant also offers a lunch special menu with even more affordable prices. Overall, El Castillo de Jagua is a great spot for anyone looking for delicious and authentic Dominican food in a welcoming and affordable setting. Whether you're a fan of traditional Dominican cuisine or just looking to try something new, this restaurant is definitely worth a visit.

The food is authentic, and the staff are very nice. We went on a Friday around 7:30p and it was pretty full which is a good sign. I would have given this place 5 stars across the board, but a few things took away from that: 1. It was my first time eating here. Came with co-workers who frequent this place. They don't have beers listed on the menus, so you just have to know about them. 2. Apparently, they usually serve bread to every table before each meal comes out, but we didn't get that. Even asked for it, but it never arrived. 3. I ordered a roasted chicken sandwich, but was informed that they were out of chicken (which is odd since at least half of their menu items are chicken). 4. After settling for the pork sandwich, but no mayo, and it was very dry (maybe that's why they included the mayo) and while the bread was thoroughly toasted, I could tell it was also a bit stale due to the way it crumbled. 5. It seemed to take a while to get out our food, which was essentially 3 sandwiches, and 2 were the same order. Nice staff, decent prices, gif location, friendly atmosphere, and decent food. I just wouldn't go out of the way, or recommend it as a spot. There are much better places in the neighborhood.

I have been eating here all my life, and my family also orders from here all the time, but I'm not sure what has happened recently. The food was absolutely terrible. (Not Exaggerating!) I was so hungry and stopped by to pick up food the rice was hard and slightly stale the meat was also hard and dry and the rest of the food except the small salad was just garbage I would be embarrassed if I were the manager or cook! This has never happened in the past, and my family couldn't believe it. I'm not sure if I was given someone else's old order, and they just microwaved it or what. Not to mention how expensive they've become. The amount that I paid for this food should have been quality food, not me having to throw it all out in the trash!! Before this I was planning with my family to all come here to the restaurant & now that has changed I am no longer coming here anymore. I wouldn't eat the food if it were free. As hungry and tired as I was that day, I was very disappointed I didn't cook and wasted my money on garbage.

Also, as a side note before this situation, I paid for 2 rotten cake desserts, and I had to walk back to the restaurant to complain. They exchanged or returned it immediately without an issue

Update 06/02/24 4 Stars 🌟🌟 🌟🌟

We ordered food here for catering for a birthday event because most restaurants we called did not accommodate food allergies or didn't show it in their menus. Everything was great! The food was delicious and well packed. We had multiple trays of food. The food was ready on time for pickup. The only thing I would have given them 5-stars, for this experience, if they had mentioned that forks, spoons & napkins were included in the price. Which was great, but we would have saved money on not having to buy additional that we didn't get to use. Otherwise, we...

So dissapointing! I come in and its pretty busy so I go to the bar and ask an employee behind the counter if i can sit there and he said yes. I never got a menu so i look it up on my phone and decide what I want. I wait about 20 mins then asked the same man if I could place my order and he said “yes”. After I told him I have no idea if he told anyone in the kitchen. I then ask if I can have a rag to clean my area bc theres some crumbs and smeared sauce in front of me. He places a rag on the counter and continues making sandwiches and toasting bread. I clean it up myself then ask him for some water which he gets for me. After about 30 minutes a man sits next to me and the woman at the delivery and pick up corner grabs a place mat, silverware, and menud on his side right away. She takes his drink order too. I have nothing and no one checks on me. Then his food arrives. I ask about my food to the same and only employee I have spoken to and he goes to the kitchen and comes back to tell me “it will be out soon”. I wait another 15 minutes and the woman at deliveries asks the man that took my order if the food was for me and he tells her “yes” and then tell him that I am dinning in. No one says anything to me they just keep working and I ask again if the food is coming. Then the woman at the delivery corner saysshe accidently gave it away to another pick up order. I never got my food, no one apologized or even spoke to me. I felt extremely uncomfortable and angry at how I was treated. Now after 50 minutes I tell the employee to cancel my order and he just nods his head and keeps working. I dont understand why wasnt treated equally to everyone else. This turned out to be the worst restaurant...
