Bayside has been blessed by more than its fair share of neighborhood gems, and Guh Song is one of them. We've been here countless times; each and every time has been outstanding.
This restaurant is "Korean Chinese food" -- Chinese food cooked with Korean ingredients, by a Korean chef, for a Korean palate. It's obviously a family run business and is blessed with quite a few amazing amenities, such as a very large and homey eating space (it's a good place for groups), a FANTASTIC wait staff, and ... parking!
The owners often walk around and talk with the guests. Very personable.
The prices are not cheap. Expect to pay $15-$25 for each dish, but the portions are ginormous. One entree can easily feed two adults, and probably even feed three adults.
In short, this is the type of restaurant the moniker "As good as it gets" was invented for.
Fried Dumplings: A Boiled Dumplings: A+ Inside filling is exactly what you'd want your dumplings to be filled with. Soft, very flavorful, and loads of ginger and garlic. They are homemade and on the larger side. The fried dumplings are perfect, and the boiled dumplings are even better!
Egg Drop Soup: A- A bit too thick/goupy, plain, and salty for me, but my daughter and wife absolutely adore this soup. My daughter, in particular, will eat this soup non-stop. The A- rating is based on an average of my family's opinion of the soup. They adore it. I like it. You get a lot of soup.
Gan Jjajang (Noodles with Special Brown Sauce): A+ This is the "signature dish" of Guh Song. The noodles are lagman noodles -- hand pulled, and very, very fresh. If you order this dish, taste the noodles by themselves and appreciate the freshness. It's a beautiful flavor. The Special Peking sauce is a chopped meat based brown sauce with a TON of chopped onions and a black bean base. Personally, this is my favorite thing on the menu, and if you read the other reviews for this restaurant, it's the favorite dish of most people who come here. Note that "special" means meat -- if you order "Noodles with Brown Sauce" you'll get the same dish without the meat in the sauce.
Meatball with Peking Sauce: A- Another dish my daughter is in love with. The meatballs are like miniature sliders. They are "flattened" and come with a bevy of vegetables. Perfect for a baby / toddler.
Shrimp Fried Rice: A A perfect fried rice. Not too oily. Nice flavors. Cooked perfectly. The shrimp didn't taste of iodine, so they were good quality.
Crispy Duck: A+ The skin was super crispy. The meat was tender and moist (crispy duck at most other restaurants tends to be overly dried and chewy). Beautiful flavors. Nice amount of fat on the duck. This is the way that I always wanted my crispy duck to taste. It might be the best crispy duck...
Read moreUpdated Went there at 1030am and placed an order for take out. Food was ready by 1110am. Took 40 min to prepare. They should change their open hour to 11am instead of 1030am. Jjajangmyun was good and service was good as well. I'll go there for Jjajangmyun but nothing else. Give one more star for good Jjajangmyun and service.
--------------previous visit-------------- I just wanted try this place for the first time. I was surprised to see a lot of people in the restaurant. Well, I guess it's lunch time. My hubby and I walked in around 12 noon and my hubby ordered Jjam Jja Myun and I ordered lunch set menu number 1 which was Jjajangmyun and Tangsooyuk. Waited for 30 minutes, and Jjamjamyun came out. Jjajangmyun was okay but Jjambong was too salty. Waited another 10 minutes, finally my set menu came out. There was one customer who was also waiting for the same set menu. She ordered ahead of me, her two other friends got their food already. She was so upset and started to complain to the waitress. I would have done the same but I kind of expected because of the review on Google. Anyhow, I got my food a few minutes after my husband finished eating. What's the point of going to the restaurant as a group? Eating alone and staring each other eating? They need to work on their service. The owner came up to us to say sorry but sorry doesn't help much in this case. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant, and I will never go back to this place. Only reason why I am giving 2 stars is food was okay and the owner apologize. Waisted my time on a...
Read moreI would give it zero stars if I could. The absolute worst service I’ve ever received. I’ve come here multiple times and every time their service has been beyond terrible. They’re attitude changes automatically when they find out I’m not Korean. I thought I’d give them more chances but this last one has done it. My sister called to make an order and they hung up on her. So I made a doordash order and when I went to pick it up every single waiter ignored me as if I wasn’t there like they have before. They told me they didn’t even make my order and there was no lunch special after I already paid. I had multiple waiters telling me off very rudely as I was confused. They shouldn’t have it on their menu on doordash if they don’t offer it or at least make it clear on there that there isn’t specials on certain days. They also could’ve cancelled my doordash order instead of waiting for me to get there and tell me that they didn’t prepare my food. I would have paid the extra money for the food. I will never be coming back to this place. EDIT: It’s nearly been a month since this whole situation and this restaurant has the audacity to do a claim reversal on the order. So I had to deal with their terrible attitudes, didn’t receive my food, AND HAD TO PAY FOR IT?! How do you sit there and charge a customer for food they never received?! I’m beyond speechless. I’ve never been more upset about an...
