Halyards — Restaurant in New York

We went to Halyards after escaping a dark and disorienting experience at the Bell House around the block and it was a really lovely little place. I ordered a glass of wine which was a little boring of me because they had a nice drinks list. Everyone in our party got a cocktail of some sort and everyone was happy...

Until we asked the bartender to open two separate tabs for our group of 10 people. Granted he was alone and clearly overwhelmed but he basically ignored us for the rest of our time there. I had asked him to bring us a little plate of prosciutto and cheese which they had as ingredients on grilled cheese sandwiches but apparently it was a little too much for him to handle and he was really unpleasant about it. There should have been more than one bartender on a Saturday night and they really could do with being more accommodating to people's allergies and food...

If you are lucky the bartender will scold you for spending money on pinball. I finally had time to stop after work since. I'm a huge pinball fan, but do not drink alcohol much and do not drink soda, but the bartender did not want to give me change for pinball. I had already played a few games but needed more money to keep playing, when I asked for change he gave me an attitude saying I needed to buy a drink. I'm all for supporting establishments but was I supposed to pay for a drink I didn't want? Maybe the next time I would want a drink , but today I didn't . And now I will never. I have never been scolded for spending money at a bar on pinball before even when I was not in the mood...

We had a party in the back room and it was super convenient and the staff were great. Hosted about 15 in the back room and were thrilled to only be charged for a food/beverage minimum. Many other spaces nearby are far more expensive. We also liked being able to bring our own food in. We did order pizzas through them, but would maybe recommend just bringing your own. They weren’t super great, but definitely accomplished their goal of feeding the kiddos and soaking up some booze. Cocktails were great (get the thin ice)! Service was speedy and we really loved the privacy of the back room. Definitely a great option...
