My view on heaps is mixed. I have good and bad comments. I'll start with the bad. When I came into the shop I waited at the counter for over ten minutes. There was no line, but the scooper seemed to take as much time as she wanted on making two hour hot chocolates. Very disappointing but I was hoping what I would get would be worth the wait. I finally ordered the chocolate peanut butter ice cream in a bowl. The scooper seemed to struggle with scooping the ice cream and the ice cream was not living up to the shops name in size. I scooped a bite into my mouth and it did not please. The ratio of chocolate to peanut butter was 90:10 and the ice cream was bone stiff. I'd understand if the shop didn't want to have lots of peanut butter in the ice cream but it seemed that the peanut butter wasn't really like butter so I don't know what these people are doing. Just make it a 70:30 ratio and I won't have to criticize the stiff peanut butter! And about the bone cold clumps of ice cream, I was in front of the tub the whole time and it was fairly empty so it's not that the ice cream was cold from being out of the fridge. The weather was okay that day and I think the poorly thought out texture is to blame for the stiff chunks. Another thing is that the ice cream isn't creamy, but actually more watery. Very, very, disappointing that your ice cream is giving water aftertaste vibes. Now I haven't mentioned the price yet. The one scoop was around six and a half dollars! I heard from someone else that a hot chocolate with the special marshmallows (more on that later) cost around sixteen dollars! I know this is a fairly new business in New York City but it's Outrageous. Instead of the free Ice cream scoop on your birthday deal, scrap it for a lower price on everything else. C'mon, either give heaps of ice cream or cheap ice cream. One last thing before the pros, is that they didn't seem to list how much the special marshmallows cost. I wish they did. Now for the good intake. If I start at the beginning I'm walking to the deli on the other side of the street and the ads for heaps catch my eye. Their first major sign that I got to try them is that they advertise ice cream sushi and special marshmallows. I walk down the steps, and a mom and her kid notice me looking at their drinks and tell me they're good. The place itself is super nice with lots of windows bringing natural light. The place was full with little kids and their Mom's for a special treat. They had lots of toppings and add-ons. The sushi looked mediocre. The ice cream sandwiches looked heavenly but were a whopping $10.50! Somewhat a big variety of ice cream. And to keep the place from getting a three star rating from me I'll give it a four because I saw lots of smiling faces, know the wrinkles in this new shop need to be fixed, and of course try those radical churro...
Read moreJust wanted to share a very disappointing experience at Heap’s Ice Cream today. My daughter and I stumbled upon an Instagram ad for free ice cream at this location, so we decided to stop by. The event started at 11:30 am and we were probably number 15 on the line. We were offered to either choose chocolate or vanilla ice cream outside or wait and be able pick any favor inside the store (or so we thought). At no point did the worker outside decide to share that we would have to pay for any flavor besides chocolate or vanilla. This was also not on the Instagram ad. After we picked our flavors, the cashier said that he would ring us up. It was at this point that we first heard we had to pay. There were no signs or mention anywhere beforehand that we would have to pay. Apparently this was a surprise to other customers on the line as well. This is just pure bad business. I am writing this not because of the cost but rather the principle. Why not tell the customer first? When another customer mentioned that no one explained we would be charged, the cashier simply shrugged and moved on. It was “National Ice Cream Day” so if you offer free ice cream, please be more specific about the stipulations. You lost many customers today as many vowed...
Read morejust discovered the most adorable ice cream shop in Brooklyn - Heaps ice cream shop. As soon as I stepped inside, I was greeted with a super welcoming vibe and a cute retro look that instantly put me in a good mood. The outdoor seating area was a lovely bonus, perfect for enjoying my treat on a nice day. Now, let's talk about the ice cream - oh boy, they have a ton of flavors to choose from! I was a bit overwhelmed, but in a good way. However, I did notice that some of the flavors had a bit of an odd aftertaste, which was slightly disappointing.
The service at Heaps was top-notch, the staff were friendly and helpful, which made the experience even more enjoyable. But, be prepared for a bit of a splurge, as the prices are on the higher side. Despite the expensive price range, I would still recommend Heaps to anyone with a sweet tooth. The unique feature of outdoor seating and the variety of ice cream flavors make it a great spot to grab a sweet treat and hang out with friends or family. Overall, Heaps is a great spot to satisfy your ice cream cravings, and I'm already planning...
