I used to come to these shops often, especially downtown. I was on a break from work and needed a temporary part time gig. My credentials are regional level. Thankfully, I finally received my offer letter from the company I was dreaming of working with & began my life and career shifting opportunity. During one of our meetings with our clients yesterday, we started talking about coffee.(Nespresso machines and pods are placed in every conference room) as well as running a full coffee bar on one of our clients floors. We work with over 100 accounts in the NYC region alone and most of them are major law firms. We were sharing stories and I was asked what my favorite coffee was and it genuinely made me pause and think about the manager who after interviewing me and discussing a possible training, didn't contact me ...even after I followed up through a personal text which he chose to ignore without any reason. I was as formal and as honest as I could be. I clearly needed something at the time and he chose to ignore that I might really be in need. Now when I walk by both the locations, I never go in.It was the only coffee place I would genuinely recommend to people. Its left a sour taste in my mouth. Especially having the same background as both him and the owner of the brand, it felt personal. Our regional director smiled at me widely at my brief story and said " and look at you now, he definitely can't afford you annually". I lost a coffee spot in my favorite neighborhood but gained so much...

Thank you Hungry Ghost for holding me down. You are a Brooklyn staple, a comfortable place to sit, drink coffee, eat food, meet friends, refill my water bottle and use the bathroom.

I'm glad you still have physical punch cards as well as the points in the cloud. I spent a lot of money there because I finally gained the $10 credit; it's a good thing the points don't expire. The cards fill up much faster. If I ask for my hot drink to stay they will give me a mug, although not typical, I want to cut down on waste, sometimes I bring my own bottle for my coffee to go.

These are the main reasons I'm a loyal customer along with that I encountered a staff person I didn't like, they're mostly chill, take making beverages seriously and helpful.

I'm a vegan and there are options for me, although I would like savory options. The best vegan pastry is the lemon olive oil loaf, but I've only seen it at the 7th Ave and 1st...

Disappointed with Declining Quality and Service

I've been a loyal customer at this location for a few years, but unfortunately, things have gone downhill, especially since the most noticeable management change. Today, I ordered a cortado and received a macchiato instead—a simple mistake, but one that reflects a lack of attention to detail.

What stood out more was the barista’s demeanor, which gave the impression that she didn’t want to be here. That energy translates into the service and, ultimately, the experience for customers. A great cup of coffee isn't just about the beans; it's about the integrity and passion of those preparing it. Sadly, that seems to be missing here now.

While I won’t be returning to this location, I know Hungry has the potential to serve an excellent cup—if you’re fortunate enough to get a server who cares...

The Nitro cold brew is 10/10! So good. But expensive at $5.25 - but worth it in my opinion. Feels more like a co-working space than a cafe. Always filled with laptops. Atmosphere is💀afraid to talk and disturb the library vibes. The ‘service’ leaves a lot to be desired, nobody has been rude or anything. Just always feel a bit unwelcoming and off. Unless you get this one dude who I won’t name / describe, but they always hit you with the “have a good day” or “how you doin?” which makes all the difference. It’s not bad, it just ain’t great. Nice big super clean space with lots of natural light. Great spot to work from, not a great spot to start your day positively.

The coffee at Hungry Ghost is decent, but the service could use some improvement. The staff seemed more focused on chatting with each other rather than paying attention to customers. It took around 10-15minutes just to get a single cup of coffee, which felt unnecessarily long, especially since the shop wasn’t even that busy. To make matters worse, they missed my order, and I had to remind them. A little more attentiveness and efficiency from the staff would go a long way in improving the experience. Hopefully, they can work on this because the coffee itself is pretty good!

Solid hot matcha latte with oat milk. I don’t understand people complaining about their ice matcha lattes being watery, what do you think ice is? Presentation of this hot one was top notch, tasted pretty great with some subtle but deep earthy notes. Could have been a little stronger to help me mitigate a Saturday morning hangover but perfectly acceptable and creamy even with oat milk. Staff seemed totally fine to me, I don’t need a barista to be my bestie, just be clean, efficient and make a damn fine cup of coffee (or matcha in this case).
