I came to this restaurant tonight to celebrate my best friend's birthday. We were a group of doctors, teachers, and engineers - half of the group was Indian, half was white.
We did not receive all the pizzas we had ordered and when we asked about the status of our food, the owner came over with the bill and asked us to pay it. She said she would take anything off the bill that we didn't receive and that there were still 3 pizzas in the oven. We said we would pay the bill and take the remaining pizzas to go.
While we were reviewing the bill, 7 nypd police officers arrived and told us we had to immediately leave the restaurant. The officers told us the owner had reported that we were attempting to leave without paying and were being disorderly. They said if we didn't leave immediately the owner wanted us arrested.
We ended up having to pay for food we had not received , 20% gratuity, and are still confused about what we had done wrong.
The officers apologized for the situation and told us to report her to the better business bureau. The owner lied to the officers, but they could see through the situation. Because none of us were being disruptive or impolite.
We were forced to pay in full and are expecting reparations.
Clearly we will never be returning.
Ps. The burthday girl still never...
Read moreThis is being shared by a close friend of mine: Pease do not patronize this establishment and pass it on. A group of 12 of us half people of color and half white people went out to dinner for a friend’s 41st birthday. She is the medical director of a large clinic and we are all older professionals. As the night went on we told the owner that we didn’t get all of our order. She said we did and wouldn’t talk about it. She told us we need to pay the bill and leave. We were still discussing the missing items and she called the police. Three police cars showed up and told us we had to pay what was on the bill and leave. They were very rude and there was no room for discussion. The police were told that we were a large group becoming disruptive and about to walk out without paying the bill. This was so far from the truth. The upsetting parts of this story are how quickly someone is willing to call the police on people of color and the alarming disparate rates the police use deadly force on people of color. There was Also no discussion or discourse about unfair charges. It is irresponsible and luckily not life damaging last night. Please pass this on we should not be patronizing racist...
Read moreMy husband and I will forever be patrons of Hoek. They are hands down the best in the business for having absolutely delicious food, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere, and running incredible events. My husband and I had no idea how lucky we would become to be working with Hoek for our wedding reception.
We knew the food and drinks were going to be delicious, but Hoek really went above and beyond to make our day extremely special. They ordered outdoor heaters, made luxurious cozy outdoor seating places for our guests, made amazing specialty cocktails , made special mulled wine and passed around cookies, as well as made our guests a variety of late night snacks which were a hit!!
Anna and Kenny are a dream team and the entire staff at Hoek is superb. Planning a wedding is stressful, and Anna always made us feel calm and excited , versus anxious. There were many questions thrown her way from us and every time she would answer realistically, thoughtfully, and in a solutions-oriented manner.
We simply can’t even rate Hoek high enough on any scale because they blew our expectations out of the water.
Definitely visit Hoek anytime you are in Red Hook. Team...
