Really busy corner spot. I've only ever had gyro platters from them but, their other offerings seem to be liked by all. It's a small place in a very busy area so, it's best to get takeout and even better to call in your order in advance since the place is so small and there really isn't anywhere to stand while waiting. And, you will have to wait during the lunch rush. Get there early if you plan to dine in or you will be taking your food to go.
If you drive, be prepared to drive around looking for a parking spot and don't be afraid to park a few blocks away and walk back. If picking up, it's best to take someone with you to run in and pick up the order.
I would have given five stars if they actually used the real gyro meat that comes on the giant rotisserie skewer rather than the processed, packaged semicircular strips that don't taste as good. There is nothing like the meat from the giant skewer that you used to find all around the city at places that used to sell gyros back in the day, very flavorful and delicious. They could do like some of the lunch trucks do that still use them and cut it all off the skewer upon delivery, store it and cook it on the grill as ordered since they don't have the room in their small place as it's currently set up.
Aside from that, I do recommend the place. A lot of area retirees frequent the place as do the work crowd in the area and many of the various delivery drivers that go thru the area. Typical NY greasy spoon with all of the greasy spoon fare that will remind you the old days.
Oh, and nice,...
Read moreOh where do I start. Let's start with Breakfast ... the donuts are fantastic, I mean nothing like Dough but they are massive classic style donuts that you grew up with. Eggs with meat + home fries are good, I mean it is a greasy spoon sort of diner. Delivery is wicked fast and the delivery guys are super friendly. For lunch: the fresh lemonade and chicken salad club sandwich are my jam. What I love about John's the most are that the prices are so affordable. I have to admit that my husband and I have legit ordered from them sometimes daily for...
Read moreThis diner has been here for many years. But they have seen their best days! But all they need is a NEW COOK! Because it is hit or miss in there with the food. It used to be really good, but how do you make a terrible breakfast! I ordered a simple omelet w/mushroom, peppers, onion, cheese & xtra bacon & it was $25, ridiculous & it was disgusting! Eggs overcooked, no veggies in so-called home fries & bacon too hard to chew! Never again! I gave 3 stars because the donuts are big & fresh. But...
