Shockingly disappointing. I've walked by Osteria Brooklyn many many times and was really excited to finally check it out. Unfortunately every layer of our experience was a let down, though based on other reviews it seems like this is an anomaly. Truly though, it was...comically bad. So bad we had to just make it a funny thing to get through it. Let me break it down:
-We arrived to our 4-person, outdoor, reservation 2 minutes early. After looking around, the hostess informed us she could only seat us indoors. We told her that the reservation was for outdoors and that we'd prefer to keep it that way (...it's COVID, why do you think that's a fair compromise?). 15 minutes went by before the a table was cleaned and set for us. There was absolutely no indication from either the hostess or the server that this was an inconvenience. In fact the attitude that we all felt was "it's a little obnoxious of you to be so insistent on an outdoor table but I guess we'll make it work." -The server was clearly forced to juggle way too many tables, because we were repeatedly left stranded for a LONG time. At multiple points we'd sit for 20 minute increments trying to flag the server down to either get more water or put in our drinks order. Twice we had to get up and literally walk around the restaurant to put in an order because it had been so long. After we finished our food we waited for about 25 minutes before one of us finally just walked up to the server at his POS and asked for the check, to which he responded "I can't do that right now" and so we went back and sat for another 5-10 minutes. When he came to give us the check, he placed it next to the credit card that we had sitting on the table and then tried to walk away. We had to literally yell after him to be like "Dude the card is right here just take it and run it so we can LEAVE." The joke was that we'd be trapped there forever. -Our appetizer plates sat on the table, dirty for the entire meal. The server never took them away and the table space was TIGHT. Our cocktail glasses also sat empty for awhile but he did eventually take those. -The food was disappointingly average and not worth the price. There are so many great italian spots in Clinton Hill that are much better for the same value. We got a plate of $18 fried oysters that just tasted like french fries and fry sauce (probably because they were covered in french fries and fry sauce). My friend's pizza and my gnocchi literally tasted like nothing. My dish was served with shaved truffle and lemme tell ya those shavings tasted like pencil sharpener flakes. Truly it was a $24 Lean Cuisine dish. Our other friends got caccio e pepe and pesto gnocchi those were pretty good, though. Still, not once did they check in on how we liked the food.
When the $200 check came we all laughed at our costly mistake. It was especially disappointing because it was for my friend who was visiting FOR HER BIRTHDAY from out of town. This was our big "going out" meal. Welp, lesson learned. Should have just...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Osteria Brooklyn, and I must say it was an extraordinary culinary experience. From the moment I stepped into the restaurant, I was greeted with warm hospitality and an inviting ambiance that set the tone for a memorable evening. To start, I savored the Fettuccine Osteria, which was a delightful combination of perfectly cooked pasta coated in a rich and creamy sauce. The flavors were balanced and the dish was a true testament to the chef's expertise. Next up was the Bucatini Cacio e Pepe, a classic Italian dish that Osteria Brooklyn executed flawlessly. The al dente pasta tossed in a simple yet flavorful combination of pecorino cheese and black pepper left me craving for more. The Tagliata Di Manzo, a succulent beef dish, was the highlight of the evening. The steak was cooked to perfection, tender and juicy, and served with a delectable array of roasted vegetables. It was a harmonious blend of flavors that left me thoroughly satisfied. Of course, a visit to an Italian restaurant would be incomplete without trying their pizza. The Pizza Margherita at Osteria Brooklyn did not disappoint. The thin and crispy crust topped with fresh tomatoes, basil, and gooey mozzarella cheese was an absolute delight for the taste buds. To complement the meal, I indulged in a glass of Pinot Noir, which was expertly paired with the dishes I ordered. The wine selection at Osteria Brooklyn is impressive, catering to various preferences and enhancing the overall dining experience. For the grand finale, I treated myself to the Gelato Vaniglia for dessert, Tiramisu and their famous Meringa cake. It was absolutely DELICIOUS! Throughout the evening, the attentive and knowledgeable staff at Osteria Brooklyn provided impeccable service, ensuring that every aspect of my dining experience was top-notch. Their passion for food and commitment to customer satisfaction was evident in every interaction. In conclusion, Osteria Brooklyn exceeded my expectations with its delectable cuisine, charming atmosphere, and exceptional service. Whether you're looking for a romantic dinner, a family gathering, or simply a delightful culinary adventure, Osteria Brooklyn is a must-visit destination. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking an authentic Italian dining experience.

Read moreWay too complicated menu...A few key points : Mediterreanean cuisine is SIMPLE !!! This is an ambitious menu but please do not call it Italian. Feta cheese? Ceviche? Vanilla layer cake? Fruits on appetizers?... All this is not authentic and makes the whole experience suspicious. Mediterreanean dishes are made with a few excellent quality ingredients and in this particular case they were too complicated and way too heavy. We had the fettucine served in the cheese wheel : great service but too rich, too heavy. Why would you use red pasta? Keep it simple and classy : the flambée show is a nice distraction and does not need a colored pasta. The truffles were bland and lost in the overwhelming cheese. We also had the crab ravioli supposedly topped with shrimps which in reality were finished with 4-5 tiny pieces of shrimps... I am skeptical about the crab because the ravioli are served with a creamy tomato sauce and as an Italian cuisine rule : either you use tomato sauce or cream and in Italian cuisine you never use cream/dairy with fish and seafood. The dish tasted more like creamy tomato sauce than like crab and shrimps. We had a tiramisu for dessert but it was made with sweet chocolate powder and whipped cream and not mascarpone. Please call it something else than tiramisu... A tiramisu is made with cocoa and mascarpone not whipped cream and oversoaked lady fingers ! Our wines (Nero d'Avola and Chianti) were delicious and our waiter was genuine and generous. The service was great and the reason why I give 2 stars to the review.
