I recently dined at Yamashiro in Brooklyn and was thoroughly impressed by the overall experience. From the moment I stepped in, the attention to detail and the level of service were remarkable. The staff was attentive, ensuring a welcoming and comfortable dining environment. One of the highlights of my visit was the exceptional quality of the sashimi. The variety was incredible, offering a wide range of choices that aren't commonly found in other sushi spots. Each piece was notably large, making each bite more enjoyable. The freshness of the fish was evident, contributing to the rich flavors and the satisfying dining experience. The sake selection at Yamashiro deserves a special mention. It was rich and diverse, perfectly complementing the meal. Whether you're a sake aficionado or new to the drink, you'll find something that suits your palate. What truly stood out was the value for money. Despite the high quality of food and service, the prices were very reasonable. It's not often you find such a gem that combines affordability with top-notch quality. In summary, Yamashiro in Brooklyn is a must-visit for anyone looking for an authentic and high-quality sushi dining experience. The combination of fresh sashimi, attentive service, and a great selection of sake, all at a reasonable price, makes it a...
Read moreWent in for lunch dine-in. Server was on her phone; took 2 minutes for her to even realize I was there. Asked me if I wanted a drink; I told her “just water for now”. Waiting for 10 minutes, I hear her talking in the background; I figure she’s talking with co-workers, dealing with orders, or the like. She finally emerges with a glass of water and stops on the end of the sushi bar counter with it, talking on her cell phone, and doesn’t glance over at me once. She stays standing there, with my glass of water, for at least couple more minutes, still not glancing over at me once, before I finally decide to just walk out, having wasted 15 minutes of my afternoon, just to get some water and put in a lunch order.
I have my bar set pretty low in NYC lately, but somehow, the service industry here is playing champion limbo right now, so I have to keep moving that bar lower and lower.
No sushi for lunch for me...

The vegetable tempura was drenched in oil, while the seafood ramen was instant noodles (I kid you not) with a chaotic mixture of sea creatures that nothing have to do with Japanese ramen: just like the shabby interiors of Yamashiro have nothing in common with a genuine Japanese restaurant. If you, like me, love Japanese culture, avoid this place at all costs and go to a Chinese restaurant. The only decent thing is the price: totally in line with the quality...
