Juicy Mama — Restaurant in New York

I’ve been a regular at Juicy Mama with no issues until today — and now I’ll never be back. I went in for a smoothie and asked to swap out a few fruits (something they’ve always done before, especially for allergies). The young woman working — the one with the bug edges and a “TV baddie” attitude — immediately caught an attitude, was rude, and said I’d be upcharged even though I wasn’t adding anything extra, just swapping.

I decided to compromise and picked a different smoothie, but she said it only came in a large. I let her know I didn’t want that size and offered a simple solution — make a medium and swap in a few fruits I liked. She told me flat-out she didn’t care and wouldn’t accommodate me just because she didn’t feel like it.

I asked her to call the manager. She did — using her unsanitary personal phone that was charging right on the food prep station next to fresh produce. She lied about what I said and refused to let me speak for myself. That’s when I started yelling — not to be rude, but because she was misrepresenting everything and silencing me in front of the person who could actually help.

Once she hung up, I didn’t even want to deal with her anymore. I calmly turned to the other girl behind the counter, hoping she could take my order instead. But she said she was just in training and couldn’t make anything unless the rude employee told her to. Clearly uncomfortable and intimidated, the trainee stayed quiet while the other girl continued with her loud, disrespectful attitude — holding onto that “baddie on TV” energy that I genuinely hope she grows out of one day.

At that point, I knocked over a few cups in frustration (none of which touched her), and she responded by throwing a full smoothie at me — twice. Then — unbelievably — she picked up a butcher knife from behind the counter and came at me with it. I was genuinely terrified. I didn’t know what she was capable of at that point, and I felt like I had no choice but to defend myself. I threw whatever I could grab in her direction, not out of aggression but out of fear for my safety.

Instead of backing down, she kept throwing things back at me — in a space full of customers, a scared trainee, and sharp objects. She put everyone at risk, including herself. I’ve never felt so threatened in a place I trusted. This wasn’t just bad service — this was dangerous, traumatizing, and could’ve seriously hurt someone.

I truly hope the owner handles this immediately. That kind of behavior, especially with a weapon involved, has no place in a business — let alone one serving food...

Went in and asked for a salmon patty. There was another customer there waiting to get her smoothie. The gentleman behind the counter checks to see if there are salmon patties, says he has them and asks how many I’d like. “Two please”. He then proceeds to ask the woman getting the smoothie if she was interested in a patty. She asks what kind they have and after hearing the options chooses one fish and one salmon. The gentleman then realizes he only has one salmon patty available and proceeds to tell ME, the person who came in specifically for a salmon patty, that he’s giving it to the other customer. The woman wouldn’t have even asked for the patty if I hadn’t requested it first. I double checked to see if he meant to give the patty to her and he apologized and said he had to give it to her. I’m not trying to be petty, but that’s not good business practice. I actually regret still buying the patty that I got because it was not...

The quality of todays patties were trash. I was in a rush today so I couldn’t get the chance to come back to tell them this.. I but I wanted a Callaloo patty since they did not have any ackee and the manager decided to give me a patty that was honestly too burnt to even eat!! At first I was confused when I saw him giving me additional patties, I thought he was being nice, but really it was the opposite because all the patties were dry, crunchy and burnt to a crisp!! I had to unfortunately throw them all away because none of them were even edible, I did not want to put that into my body. I feel like I just wasted $5 and I am disappointed that he shouldn’t have even given me such low quality food. Those patties are not cheap! I will not be supporting this establishment anymore too many inconsistencies...
