Kossar is a unique kind of bagel shop. It’s clean, bright, and has a comfortable seating area — almost too nice, more like a bakery than your typical bagel joint. You know how bakeries and bagel shops usually have distinct vibes? Kossar somehow captures the charm of both. It’s a bit uncanny — the lighting and fancy atmosphere make you briefly question whether a place this polished can still serve legit bagels.

Of course, there’s a line — it’s a popular spot. But the line moves quickly. The staff are organized, efficient, and you’ll likely have your bagel in hand within 10–15 minutes, even during peak hours.

And the bagels? Outstanding. Big, fluffy, fresh, and satisfyingly chewy. I usually go for the Everything or Egg Everything bagels — both are excellent. The cream cheese is rich and generously slathered on — exactly how I like it. It’s on the softer, creamier side, which pairs beautifully with the crispy texture of the toasted bagel.

One early morning, just before 7:30, I sat in the cozy space while old-school jazz played and black-and-white photos lined the walls. I savored my bagel, sipped a coffee, and quietly watched the line of people trickle in, all eager to order their favorites. It was oddly fun to overhear the different combinations people asked for — everyone has their ritual.

I love coming to Kossar. It’s popular without being overwhelming. Not spacious, but still pleasant to sit in. It’s my little weekend...

My recent visit to this bagel place left me thoroughly unsatisfied. The door, acting as if winter warmth was its sworn enemy, steadfastly refused to close, subjecting us to an unrelenting chill throughout our entire dining experience. It felt like we were having our bagels in an icebox rather than a restaurant.

The frigid air invaded every inch of the space, making it nearly impossible to enjoy our meal. We found ourselves shivering, attempting to savor our bagels amidst the unwelcome cold. The lack of attention to such a basic issue is astounding, and it significantly detracted from what should have been a pleasant meal.

The oversight on the part of the establishment in addressing this fundamental problem is disappointing. It reflects a disregard for the comfort and well-being of their patrons. I won't be returning, and I strongly caution others to think twice before subjecting themselves to the bone-chilling experience that this bagel...

Absolutely love this place! Had a large order of 2 dozen bagels (you actually get 14 bagels in their dozen) & several cream cheese to take to our family in Ottawa, ON, plus a couple of sandwiches & drinks for the road. Service was friendly, they packaged everything so well & even packed the cream cheese with ice for our 7+ hour road trip.

The bagels are huge, absolutely delicious with the right amount of bite & chew & their cream cheese is some of the best in town!

Peanut Butter Protein Smoothie was delicious! Bacon, Egg & Cheese Breakfast Bagel is a great way to start your day! Kossar’s Classic sandwich was just that, classic! Americano hit the spot!

I can see why they have been around for a while & have a few locations around town!

Do yourself a favour & check them out. You can thank me...

I have so far tried plain, whole weat and cinnamon bagels with cream cheese and loved all of them. I can also recommend egg&turkey bacon bagel which was great. The place looks clean and the people in the kitchen work really hard. So they all deserve five stars. However, I have a similar complaint shared by someone named Dorian below. I had a chance to observe the cashiers while waiting for my orders. The same lady whose picture was shared in one of the reviews was super rude to one of the customers. In a different day, there was another cashier who was an Asian guy and he was incredibly rude to the customers on the line. Next time, I'll take their pics and edit my post to refer who I am referring to.
