I love museums and I love history. Walking up 70th Street today I passed the most gorgeous store. The windows were filled with colorful antiques all having to do with the ancient art of barbering. It was a treat to be welcomed in and given a private tour by the owner, Arthur Rubinoff. Arthur’s passion for all things having to do with the iconic red and white striped pole began with his Father and Grandfather who were both barbers. But the history of barbering goes back hundreds of generations. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to step inside this luxurious hold out from the past. You will enjoy the stories and delight in the meticulously restored barbershop chairs, and hundreds of antiques and photographs on the walls. You will begin to understand the fascinating connection between medicine and barbering and how barbers were often the only medical care available in the 1300’s and beyond. A great place for school, tours, small gatherings and parties, and… the place to get a fantastic, shave and haircut! Call for your appointment, but feel free to walk in if you...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of visiting the NYC Barber Museum, and it exceeded all my expectations! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by the warm ambiance and the fascinating display of barber memorabilia. Arthur Rubinoff, the founder and a fourth-generation master barber, is not only an expert in his craft but also a passionate storyteller. During my royal haircut, he shared captivating insights about the history of barbering, including how barbershops served as social hubs for men throughout history. ✂️
The haircut itself was phenomenal—Arthur took his time to ensure every detail was perfect, making it feel like a true work of art. I left feeling refreshed and enlightened, having learned so much about a craft I previously knew little about. The museum’s unique atmosphere, combined with Arthur’s expertise, creates an experience that goes beyond just a haircut; it’s a journey through time. I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting NYC or even locals looking for an exceptional grooming experience! I can't...
Read moreI love quirky hole-in-the-wall places that you really can't experience anywhere else, and this place was awesome! My parents were coming into town for 3 days and as soon as I found this place I told my dad that one thing he has to do while he's in NY is get a haircut from the barbershop museum, because where else can you get this experience. My dad and I also love trivia and Arthur, the proprietor, has so much knowledge that is so unique. He was professional, exceptionally kind, very personable, and one hell of a barber. He was so welcoming, chatted with us the whole time, gave us interesting facts about barbershop history, as well as all the memorabilia around his shop. The location is beautiful. It's not big, but there's so much to look at, and everything in the store came from a barbershop somewhere in the world. This place deserves all the recognition, and for a true, classic barbershop experience, he is SO reasonably priced. 100% recommend. Support local businesses and support the barbershop museum! You won't be...
