My mother and I had passed this hospital going to dinner and later that night she started getting really upset and anxious and said she wanted to die and needed a doctor. I told her we could walk down the block to the place we saw because the restaurant was closed and I called 911 and said we were outside of this hospital and to send emergency dispatch immediately and then I buzzed but the security guard just ignored me so I tried to calm her down and we waited for an ambulance bc no one inside this hospital would help or even allow us to wait where she could be safe for the EMT. I called 911 again and at least 4 times and then they hung up and the security guard and some administrative personnel came to the door and basically told us to leave and I was just stocked but strangers that were walking by were trying to help and even they were asking to speak with the hospital staff because a few of them had come down and the facility was open and all the lights on and a huge lobby with seating while we were waiting just outside but not one of them even came to assist and just stood there watching. My mom was walking into the street and she just recently became mobile after her legs were almost amputated and it was late and dark and she’s on anti-psychotic medication that causes her to act impulsively and the side effects are sudden dizziness, falling and suicidal behavior so I don’t know what else to say. It was a nightmare and 911 stopped answering my calls until other people called and a kind stranger waited with us because it has been over an hour and then the police came and they couldn’t even get her to sit down and i explained what was happening and they finally got the ambulance and she was admitted into the ER at NY Presbyterian where she literally told the doctor she was dying. What is happening to this city? I work in healthcare and I couldn’t believe how terrible this system has become until I saw it with my own eyes. #graciesquarehospital #marymanningwalsh #archcare Check out this Yelp review for Gracie Square Hospital

it was ok it had its pros and cons.

pros: -the 3 hours of ipad time plus the ipads on the walls (i was on the 2nd floor) were great honestly, kept me from going more insane. they gave earbuds to, which PROBABLY should be changed to privelege level 2 (the one that lets you go on the roof), but they were very nice to have

-my NP was great. i had 2 cuz one of them took a week off (i was there all of October), but they both tried to fit my needs as well as they could. They even got me a student therapist, since they decided DBT would help me a lot, but they didnt have regular talk therapists on staff. However, this is NOT a universal experience as far as i know

-music therapy. the music therapist let me play her keyboard as she packed up since i knew how to play piano. that little bit of time was so helpful. she was so nice i love her

-they prioritized getting me out of there once the meds worked because they agreed that i really needed things to utilize the distraction DBT skills i learned. essentially, when the hospital was doing more harm than good, they got me out of there asap. this is 100% NOT universal as it was the opposite for my roommate

cons: -my social worker was TERRIBLE. My NP told me she told my social worker to contact my school like my 3rd or 4th day. week 2 i asked the social worker about it and she said "oh i told my coworker to do it. it should be done soon". the school wasnt called in the 4 weeks i was there. ended up using the main room phones to call myself. My roommate had the same social worker and she kept LYING to her about her release date. she told her she'd get out tuesday, which changed no next thursday, which changed to next tuesday, which changed to "sometime next week". i kept missing her phone calls but she was still there at least a month after i left, despite her originally being told she was getting out BEFORE me. Again, not a universal experience and you could probably ask the staff for a different one, but i liked my NP so i didnt.

-lots of reviews here talk about the aides and yep a bunch of them aren't great. There were some really nice ones, though the names escape me since i was released over 6 months a. none of the aides told me about other patients, but i definitely believe it since they were very gossipy. one on one nurses were looking at their phones the whole time (one on one nurses are assigned to patients that cannot be trusted to tell someone if theyre gonna harm themselves/others). One nurse was taking my bp wrong (im trained as an EMT) and got an attitude with me/yelled at me. considering i was a depressed, suicidal, sensitive at the time patient, this is NOT how you should treat psych patients, even if they get on your nerves. had an aide yell at my roommate to "stop bothering other people and to dial the number herself" when she asked another patient to enter a number for her because SHE CANNOT READ THE PHONE NUMBERS CORRECTLY HOW IS SHE SUPPOSED TO DO IT HERSELF. Its def not all of them cuz there were ones that were very kind to me, but some of them arent that good.

-i have no explicit proof, but i think the NP told my mom stuff without telling me she did. When i was released, all of a sudden, my parents insisted my meds should be kept in the livingroom. all the pills in my room that werent my prescribed pills, including the 200 prozac pills i was gonna use to do it, suddenly disappeared. I didnt tell them my plan before being admitted was to oversose, didnt even tell them i almost went through on it, but i told all this to my NP, including the leftover prozac. a bit strange, but i can't say for sure.

-bathrooms were FILTHY. looked like they havent been cleaned in years. people walked in on you ALL THE TIME, one of my major fears. bathrooms should be regulated better

overall, i wouldnt say it was the BEST place, but it helped me when i needed it. it def couldve been a LOT worse. Major thing ill say is tjat if you feel you need talk therapy as well, bring it up to your NP or psychiatrist there so they can get you a...

The Hospital's negligence permitted my friend to get molested on 6/22/24.

They have not done anything since to seperate him or help him, rather Dr. Alexandre threatened him with forcing him to take more medication after overdosing him with Depakote on 6/20 and 6/21 due to the fact his blood levels did not reach "theraputic levels" inspite of him showing only signs of recovery.

Dr. Torres the Medical doctor on call on 6/24 had said that my friend had pain in his right upper quadrant, the liver and gallbladder area after the medication overdose.

She then proceeded to prescribe him Maalox for his heart burn inspite of knowing his liver already has trouble breaking down all the chemicals.

Maalox contains aluminium hydroxide which has toxic neurological effects.

He thus had refused to take any more medication due to the pain in his liver area.

For excercising this right of medicine refusal on 6/24/24 Dr. Alexandre contacted my friend's family and turned them against them by pushing his authority on them.

His family thus proceeded to say he deserved to stay in this environment and that if he comes out they will not support him.

After my visit on 6/24/24 I had said that my friend and I will now prepare to sue the institution for malpractice especially since they not only overdosed my friend but they psychologically tramautized him too.

I have been banned from the hospital as of 6/25/24 for advocating his rights, telling him to get a lawyer and saying that he has the right to call the authorities for he is under duress.

The hospital had further taken steps to retaliate against him by serving him a food he noted to the nutritionist that he does not eat for dinner.

The 19th Precinct had been notified by me however due to the nature of this private premise they cannot reach my friend unless he calls personally.

However the office of State Senator Julia Salazar has been informed and law firms have been reached and things will go public about the true conditions of this private medical company.

Update as of June 6/26/2024 my friend had been given a court letter to attend to inorder to force him to take medication to which the hospital pushed one of their lawyers to represent him.

Update as of June 6/27/2024 my friend was psyched evaluated without his own personal lawyer and the hospital still has not seperated him and his molester.

As of July 2nd my friend has been released after a judge ruled against the hospital.

It had been apparently 60 years since a patient successfully won a case against the hospital.

A reckoning and rude awakening is due, after my friend decompresses and rests a lawsuit...
