I have just returned from there now, the service from the server was great he was polite and attentive, the scones were amazing, however having experienced afternoon tea in various countries I would say the sandwiches are on the tiny side but very tasty. All in all a nice experience until we went to leave....
On leaving the concierge who went to get our coats was so rude, he made me walk to him with the ticket (which I usually wouldn't mind, only he walked past me to his desk and then when I walked over it wasn't close enough for his liking and he would not put his hand out to take the ticket, I had physically stretch over to him as he was too lazy to do his job and take the ticket from me). On returning with our jackets he stood in the hallway and made us walk across the room to him to collect them from him and take them back to our table (he held them out like they were infected and he did not want to have to touch them for any longer than he had to) then he got agitated when we waited for him to bring them over to us (as most people going to get a jacket for the customer would usually do).
I have been to some of the top afternoon tea places in London such as the Ritz and Claridges and have never been treated so badly by a snobby member of staff thinking he was so far above his station. They need to be careful with this staff member as he will soon dwindle their good reviews by bad ones if he keeps dolling out bad service. Unfortunately this tainted our experience and leaves me giving only an 'Ok' review as appose to...
Read moreI've done many lovely afternoon teas around the city, but Lady Mendl's ranks as one of the top places for Afternoon Teas in my book.
Aside from the ambience and choice morsels they offered, I really liked the way they served the tea offerings in courses rather than simply bringing out the one-and-done tower of treats every other place seems to do. We were given the option to choose our preferred tea for the entirety of the set, or sample different teas at each course. We chose the latter, and very glad we did so, as it allowed us to try their excellent teas. Tasting the food in courses allowed us to savor everything, and provide a refined experience. They started us off with a choice of soup or salad. I chose the soup, as it was my favorite - potato leek. It was hot and delicious. One of the better potato leek soups I've had in a while. My friend's arugula salad with parmesan shavings was simple, but fresh. Next, I was really happy with how fresh the tea sandwiches were, as freshness seemed to be a challenge in many of the afternoon tea establishments I tried. I liked the flavor combinations of the sandwiches, as well. The scones, clotted cream, lemon curd, and marmalade, were not the best I've tried, but they were perfectly fine. Next, we were offered a choice of chocolate cheesecake or vanilla crepe cake. We got one of each and they were both delicious and light. The last course had petit fours, macarons, and chocolate covered strawberries, which were the perfect endings to this perfect afternoon tea. Overall,...
Read moreWhat an awesome experience!
The hostess was very kind and gracious. I was waiting for a friend for 15 mins and she and I chatted about their menu, favorite tea spots in England, how much she appreciates her job. It’s the perfect place for a bridal or baby shower. Everyone who comes in there is so well dressed and kind. It’s a perfect spot for women. We went for their afternoon tea for 2 and started with the earl grey which was so smooth and tasty followed by 6 other types of tea’s with every course. All were fantastic. I bought the earl grey to bring back home for my hubby. They sell their teas which is amazing. We started off with the cucumber avocado gazpacho which was really nice and refreshing, then the next course were the sandwiches - I enjoyed all of them. The breads could have been slightly softer but nevertheless the sandwiches were delicious. Very unique and tasty. After we were done with our sandwiches came the next round of tea along with the their scones and clotted cream with jam and lemon curd which was divine. Then lastly came the desserts. The cake slice was nice and creamy the macaroons and chocolate dipped strawberries were ok. The service was excellent. It’s definitely more for the aesthetics that people come here but I thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience especially because I went on a completely empty stomach. Its slightly on the pricier side and you might feel hungry after about an hour or so but it’s definitely a cute experience. I would definitely...
