Make My Cake — Restaurant in New York

I purchased over $110 worth of pastries here last week and have been a frequent patron of Make my Cake since 2002. Today there were two patrons in the location at the register when I came in and was pregnant and one was not. A woman came in after me walked in front of me to place order. Although mine had not been taken and I had not been acknowledged by the attendant. He made eye contact with me but when he returned to the cash register he had begun filling the order of the woman who walked in after me placing two slices of strawberry cake on the counter and returning to get the next item she ordered. I at least got to make sure that the women that came in before me had already placed their orders before trying to place mine and I was summarily ignored. At this I walked out. This will be the last purchase I make from this location. Service is everything. You let one rude customer skip the line and it'll cost you. By the way, the lettering I had on the cake that I ordered last week was something I could have done at the age of 7. If you don't have someone that knows how to do that; just don't even attempt. That was pathetic. I overlooked it because it's a Black owned business. Bypass this location all together and instead take a ride to Bed Sty to spend your money at Doc's Cake Shop. It's a far superior product. I've never ordered any cake there that was as dry as 2-day old cornbread with icing on it. Docs is well worth well worth the nearly 2-hour ride that it takes me to get there. This service is above reproach. Besides, it's Black owned and operated. If you're not keen on traveling that far, go 10 blocks and one avenue over to cakeman Raven and enjoy Guinness Book of World's Records winning red velvet cake. It's small and a bit pricey, but once again a better use of your money...

I placed a special cake order for my birthday and was very disappointed with how they treated me and the quality of the cake. I ask for a Strawberry cake with coconut vanilla frosting. I came from out of town to place the order in person and showed a picture of the cake I wanted for my birthday. I called countless times to make sure they got the cake right. The owner told me she can make it. On the day of pick up which was 1 month from the day i ordered it, i received horrible service and the cake was a disappointment. I paid $75 for the cake and it was not at all what I requested. It was a yellow cake with strawberry frosting with no coconut. When i told her this is supposed to be vanilla frosting with coconut shavings they took the cake put vanilla frosting on top of the strawberry frosting and added shavings. I was so disappointed as this was for my 45th bday and wanted to celebrate with family and friends. I told the staff about the mishap and she told me they don't make strawberry cake. I was baffled because they told me they can make the cake as I requested a month in advance. I received terrible service and now they avoid answering my calls about this problem. Horrible horrible horrible!!! Do not order Noooooooooooo cakes from here they will up sale you. And the baker Aaliyah is horrible she lacks customer service skills. I brought a red velvet cake from here for my sisters birthday. The design was not what I ask for, when I ask Aaliyah to fix it she refused and stated “ everything was put up and she couldn’t ( remind you she is the owner) I ask if she could put glitter to spruce up the cake. She wanted to charge me extra for the glitter. After I had already paid 75 dollars for the cake. I took the cake due to the fact the event was the same day. So, I just took the cake to the party. When it was time to serve the cake everyone complained about the cake being dry, having no moisture and it also tasted old. I was extremely embarrassed! I called her the next day to inform her. She first acted as if it wasn’t her on the phone but I remembered her voice. I told her I know it’s her and then she confirmed she acted as if the cake shop was closed and she was running errands and said she would call me back later. Never did she ghosted me.
