They knowingly sold us a defective cheesecake (sinking in the middle, cracked, and burnt) and had the audacity to act indignant when we returned the cake.
We purchased the cake to celebrate a friend being sworn in as an attorney. Another friend picked up the cake, but she was in a hurry so she didn't inspect it closely. She had requested that they write a message on the cake, but was told that they could not do so because the frosting was too heavy and the cake would cave in. When the time came to eat the cake, I opened the box and saw a cake that was falling apart. There were numerous cracks on the top layer of the cake and the cake was caving in in the middle. It was clear that the reason that they refused to write a message on the cake was because it was already caving in in the middle when they sold it to us and if they wrote a message on it, they would not have been able to add the dollip of frosting in the middle that they used to disguise the fact that the cake had sunk in in the middle. After seeing the cake, I called them to report my concerns and initially, I was told that the cake was exactly as depicted on the website. It was not. Then, I was transferred to the manager, Kevin (I think that was his name), and I once again expressed that the cake looked nothing like the picture on their website. Kevin told me that "what's on the website is on the website, we don't make that." I kindly explained what false advertising is and he told me that we could bring the cake back.
So, we returned to the store with the cake and asked to speak to the manager. Enter Kevin (I think that was his name), the epitome of quality customer service. Kevin storms out from the back and loudly says "who am I dealing with." Not hello. Not how may I help you. So, we call him over and my friend explains that the cake that we received was not what we ordered. Kevin proceeds to rudely say "who are you?" to my friend. She introduces herself and he just stares at us. So I then asked him for his name and that was when the MANAGER of this establishment finally decided to identify himself. He proceeds to tell us that the cake is perfectly fine and is not caving in. I told him that we can agree to disagree, but we did not come here to argue. He told me to bring the cake back, so we brought the cake back. Kevin then goes back to ranting that the cake is fine. I explained that we can agree to disagree. He thinks that the cake isn't cracked, we think that it is. He thinks that the cake isn't sinking in, we think that it is. He thinks that this cake is okay to give to a customer. We don't think that it is. Then Kevin proceeds to show off his quality customer service skills by ranting at me and repeatedly rolling his eyes when we try to explain that the cake that we received looks NOTHING like what is advertised on the website. Eventually, he offers us a store credit, because who wouldn't want to buy another cake that looks nothing like it's supposed to look like. My friend explains to him that she'll pass on the store credit, but would gladly accept a refund. Eventually, he gives her a refund.
At no point did he or ANYONE apologize for the terrible cake that they gave us, a cake that looked nothing like the cake on the website or the cake that was for sale in the store when we returned our trash cake.
Below is a picture of what the cake was supposed to look like according to their website and 5 pictures of the cake that...
Read moreIf I can give 0 stars, I would. I usually order from BcakeNY located in Brooklyn but have been on a support black owned business streak. Despite finding little to no photos of their work and the employees not having any to provide, I decided to move forward with ordering.
My first visit here, I thought although the establishment was small and a bit “ran down”, the cakes and cookies smelled amazing. After speaking with a young lady in the front who had been as accommodating as she could, she went to get the owner so that I can discuss design etc. I sat down and waited; an hour went by and I asked that she go remind her that I am waiting (as I am 8 months pregnant and now getting uncomfortable). The young lady went to remind her and said she’d be out shortly; another half hour went by and I got up to put on my coat. She apologized and I ordered two cookies before attempting to leave. The owner “Joanne” came out and it didn’t look as if she were coming out to speak with me, however, when she noticed me she said “oh , you’re the one waiting for me”. I responded “yes, I’ve been here for maybe two hours to speak with you”. She responded with “nobody reminded me you were still here”. She was an older lady, so I brushed it aside . It happens right?
After spending an additional hour there speaking with her, I put an $82 down payment for the cake. The day before the cake was to be picked up, I had to purchase flowers and bring them to put as decorations for the cake. I called before going to ask how many flowers to purchase, after waiting on the phone for about 8 minutes, I was hung up on. I called back and was told “the phone sometimes do that.” Upon taking in the flowers, I asked Joann if I could see the cake. She nastily says , “NO why would I let you see the cake? Don’t stress me out.” I responded that it’s my 30 birthday so I’m just excited and my intentions are not to stress her out”. She stated that the cake was not done and even if it was she wouldn’t show me because that isn’t what she do. Now I should’ve asked for a refund then because I was appalled. I’m 8 months pregnant, 30th birthday In one day and as this is an exciting time for me, her attitude was dispicable and nonetheless discouraging.
But maybe the cake will be worth it right? WRONG. I traveled the next day to pick the cake up and before they bring the cake out the first thing the girl says is “ Joann isn’t here but she told us if you didn’t like the cake, you can have your money back”. They bring out the cake and it’s NOTHING like what I asked for. They have a email description, and photo of the cake attached to the receipt, yet the photo isn’t anything like what I wanted. The color is a bright , hot , Barbie doll car pink, while I asked for an extremely pale pink and the design is horrendous. I was refunded my down payment but they would not refund me the $25 I paid for the flowers. I wish I could post photos here and if I find a way , I’ll update . I will also write the same review on yelp and considering they let me upload photos, you can find photos there.
If you’re looking for a quick cake to pick up for a child , this may be the place for you. If you’re interested in something nice for an adult birthday, or event, this is NOT the place. Please save yourself the time and disappointment and find...
Read moreI made an order for 10 chocolate chip cookies on 2/13/2020. Placed a $13 deposit, gave my name and number liked they asked. Set a pick up time of 5pm 2/14/2020. Was told I would be texted my receipt of the deposit. I never received a text and had to go there to get the deposit receipt after work @5pm 2/13/2020. Showed up 2/14/2020 and asked for the order we set for pick up at 5pm; 10 chocolate chips cookies. I was told by the woman in front that "they only had 9 cookies lying around" as she took cookies from the front display. I said "so my cookies weren't baked and put aside for my order they are coming from the front display?" She said "yes and someone put them in front by mistake..." So I paid the difference and head to the event one cookie short of the order of 10 cookies. I get to my destination and all of the cookies are hard and not fresh. I called "Make My Cake" located in Harlem and spoke with the Manager Kevin; he came off very rude and stated that the cookies were made this morning and placed in the front. Kevin said that the cookies are fresh to his standards even though they were made this morning. Make My Cake never made a batch for my order and placed them aside for the 5pm pick up. Mr. Kevin challenged me on when a customer makes an order whether you place the order on the side and make display cookies for the front and not to put the cookies for the order in the front display. Again Mr Kevin came off very rude and acted as if he doesn't know who was responsible and said his mom is the owner, but she is away. Mr. Kevin said he will call me back after things are sorted out. Mr. Kevin also said the only way to verify the order I just picked up (the 9 cookies that was suppose be 10) is if I bring them back to Make My Cake tonight or tomorrow (reminder: I'm at event). Mr. Kevin was extremely rude and customer service was horrible. I'm never going back. I used to buy many of the chocolate chip cookies. Not any more. They never honored my order and the quality of the cookies were bad. I'm not coming back!
Update: Make my cake called me back on 2/15/2020 and apologized for the service and quality of the cookies. They offered a box of assorted cookies but I asked for a refund and they said they would give me one. Much...
