I went here with a work colleague for lunch, since Max's is relatively close to WTC. We try out several restaurants in the area and both the food and the service had to be among the worst, especially when compared to neighboring restaurants such as Gigino Trattoria and Roc. I ordered the special, which was a sundried tomato pasta with goat cheese in a pesto and arugula sauce. We waited over 30 minutes for the dish (which on a business lunch isn't the best). There were maybe four raviolis on the plate, covered in a chunky green sauce with nuts on top. If the poor presentation was the worst of it, things would have been fine, but the taste was absolutely terrible. I asked the waitress if I could send it back and have what my colleague was having. The manager came to speak with our table and said that nothing was wrong with the dish and that we would be charged full-price in addition to whatever else we ordered. Needless to say, my colleague asked for his to go and we left.

If you're looking for a place to take a client or even to just grab a decent Italian lunch, I would...

Food was great! Got an eggplant app and two entries to split - lasagna and pollo al Limon, both were fantastic! We left so full!!!

Note to others - your party must be fully present to seat you, so my guest waited at the bar which was fine, but then when we wanted to be seated, the hostess assumed we were okay staying at the bar, which is fine, but I'd wished it wasn't presented as "do you just want to stay at the bar?" rather maybe, "we have a table ready for you unless you'd prefer the bar?" I felt obligated to stay at the bar. Then, when our meal was over, we asked that the Alcohal be put on a separate check than the food but the bar tender said it was our fault he couldn't do that because we didn't tell him earlier on in the night. Well, sorry sir, we didn't know we'd be eating at the bar when we arrived. Also, we were asked NUMEROUS times if we were done with our food, while we were still eating as though they were trying to clear our plates and rush us out.

Overall, great food, we left super full. But, I gave this place a 4 because of...

had been here before and the food is great. however, when we returned, we had a horrible experience. we had a reservation. as we ran just a little bit late, we called to let them know we were running about 10 minutes behind our reservation. the first two times we called, we got put on hold and were the. hung up on. the third time we called, the person on the other end said "no problem. we'll have your table when you get here." as we arrived, the hostess said "ohh you're late. sorry we don't have a table for you." As we tried to explain the situation, she interrupted us and did not care whatsoever as to the fact that we were upset. she was caddy and extremely rude. when we asked to speak to the manager she said "I am the manager" when we asked who we could speak to who was superior to her, she said "no one." as she claimed to be the owner! she did absolutely nothing to help us or ease the situation and we ended up having to leave! all on top of a $25 cab fare to get there! extremely disappointing and will not...

One of the best Italian restaurants in Manhattan. If you want authentic Italian food, Max is the place to go. It’s located in TriBeCa, a very nice neighborhood. The owners, Luigi and his wife, are very friendly and attentive. I feel so lucky to have such a place at a walking distance from my home. I’d suggest you start with an appetizer... polpette are the specialty or melanzane fritte. Select choice of pasta from orecchiette pugliesi to pasta del marinaio. Very special. Also, ask for the special of the day, they may surprise you with a zucchini soup... unique flavor. Great selection of wines from Italy. Just a wonderful restaurant!

We were so hungry, I forgot to take photos of our meals, but the food was delicious! It's difficult for me to find bruschetta on this side of the Atlantic that I truly enjoy and this was very good! The calamari fritti was probably also the best I've had! It's a very cute, cozy restaurant with a rustic Italian flair. The service staff were friendly enough, but it did feel a bit like we had to ask for attention (ask for bread, if you'd like it, as it is served prior to or with your meal but they don't seem to offer). I'd definitely go back!
