portions are huge but by no mean they’re good. mediocre food at best. the only dish we enjoy was the fried tofu and it’s a steep downhill from there. Sashimi tasted loose and not fresh. The spicy karage has a thin coated layer with no flavors at all (considering they didn’t provide any dipping sauce on the side as well.) The shrimp shumai came from the freezer and tasted like a bland dough. not sure how it’s called shrimp shumai when u can barely taste/find shrimp in it. (and yes, any stores in chinatown can do better.) Most importantly, the staffs were unfriendly for no reason. I asked for a cup of water for myself after i finished my drink. My friend was not aware of my request and later asked for a cup of hot water for himself when he finished his two drinks. The waitress literally YELLED at him saying “say ur request altogether not one by one” and left without ever coming back. It was the only two time we asked for water and there’s no reason to be aggressive at all. All of our requests were made politely with smile and courtesy and did not deserve to be scolded at. It was the most horrible dining experience I’ve had, and definitely the worst for my friend as well since it’s his first time in nyc.

Another visit to my favorite sushi joint. Ordered a carafe of otokoyama sake, Happy Together (broiled eel with asparagus, candied walnuts wrapped in soy paper), shumai (steamed shrimp dumplings) with honey mustard and an order of tempura udon with the crisp tempura on the side. The eel roll is always a regular order for me as the flavor and crunchy texture of the asparagus compliment one another SO well. Delicious. I really enjoy the tentacled exterior of their shumai which is only made more enjoyable with the sweet heat of the mustard. Who doesn’t find a big hot bowl of udon in flavorful broth so comforting and combined with a collection of fried veg and a couple perfectly cooked tempura shrimp. All absolutely delectable. I have & always will recommend Takahachi Tribeca as a satisfying and consistent choice for creative & high quality sushi & Japanese food in general. You’ll love it!

Takahaci is a beautiful little gem in the neighbourhood. The atmosphere was calm and zen and the decor was amazing. I highly recommend the specials. I got the sashimi so platter with toro, scallops and striped jack(?) which were all super fresh and delicious. The toro melted in my moth and the scallops had such incredible texture and flavour. I also ordered the Superman till which was HUGE but delicious and the miso soup which was one of the best miso soups I ever had. The flavour was light and complex with some shiitake and orange hints and it was super fresh. We also ordered the cloudy sake which was a perfect light paring with everything! Only thing we didn’t like was the shabu shabu salad which was a bit dry but they were great with dealing with that.

Another fake chinese place pretending to be a Japanese restaurant! If you ever been to a real Japanese place you would know the difference in a second. Sushi and sashimi were okay. Other so called Japanese food were mediocre at best.

Few real problems to consider before you go.

FOOD INSPECTION GRADE IS PENDING (Meaning kitchen and other food prep places did not pass NYC inspection and must be dirty and unsanitary) It's only given to places that fail the cleanliness inspection.

I did not wanna leave any tips but left $10 for a bill of $119. And went to restroom, once i came back it turns out whoever the idiot manager was harassed my partner and said it was not even %10 percent of the bill and edited the tip amount to $20. I wanted to let the manager know he must stop pretending to be chinese gangster and demand people to tip him more but i did not wanna insult him in front of everybody.

If you can not afford to pay your employees decent waged do not operate a business in SOHO and force customers to subsidise your staff with extra tips. You are...
