MEIR'S HEIMISHE BAKERY — Restaurant in New York

I stopped in on a whim this morning after reading their sign about their low (4gr) carb, fat free, no sugar added muffins. As someone else's review noted, the owner at the counter is rather gruff and let's just say a little different but countered by the very nice Latina woman who works in the kitchen. He gave me a friendly hello and told me that the low carb muffins were still warm from the oven (mine was fresh but not warm).

There are only two small tables in the bakery but being Tuesday mid morning I had a table to myself and he had no problem with me bringing in my 7-Eleven coffee. My blueberry muffin was good for a no guilt snack but it couldn't compete with its high carb cousins! :-).

Our experience was poor. Presumably the owner served us. After we exchanged pleasantries, we asked about the babka. I ordered a 1/4 lb and he gave me more than a 1/2 lb -- over twice more than I asked. (Babka is expensive at almost $13 per pound.) The exchange felt pressured. He placed the item on the scale very quickly and prevented us from verifying the weight. What struck me as dishonest, when we got home we realized he served me two separate pieces. He could have easily given me one piece and would have satisfied my original order request. Instead, he gave me two pieces and charged twice as much! Meir's Heimishe Bakery has amazing iced coffee, and perfectly delicious muffins which are low carb and great for diets. They have variety of different mouth watering desserts, as well as fresh bagels. The staff is very friendly and warm to each customer, and always greet everyone with a welcome! They accept credit cards, which is very beneficial. Overall, one of the best bakeries in Brooklyn! 10/10 I recommend to stop by and go...
