A sports bar. Sports-bar atmosphere and sports-bar food. Nothing noteworthy in that regard. But multiple unpleasant service experiences over the course of just a few visits.. A waitress slipped a "large party, gratuity" into the bill, yet didn't mention anything when presenting the payment device at the table. Luckily I noticed and asked. Was she trying to get a 40% tip out of us?? (Our "large party" was 2 people, btw..) Then the following week, again 2 people. Decided to get one serving of fries to share instead of each getting a separate serving with our sandwiches. "So a serving of fries for both of you to share?" "Yep." Ok, got a nice bowl of shoestring fries with our sandwiches and didn't think much of it. Then the bill comes out with $8.95 on it for fries. Was that like a larger serving for 2?? (I think the menu has fries as $3.95, so that would be more than double..?) Something else? Who knows (I didn't really notice the anomaly until after I'd left).. I would say it's nickel-and-diming, but no. Their $16-$18 nothing-special, bar-food-quality sandwiches/burgers, to which you need to add $4 fries on the side -- that's nickel-and-diming. The other stuff is beyond that. Plain old douchey. I'm there to grab a few beers, relax, and watch some sports. I really don't enjoy having to constantly be on high alert to see how they're trying to screw me...
Read moreBeen here a few times and each time the service has been consistently terrible. Also, they dont honor the trivia night prizes. We won a free round and a like $45 of gift cards. We tried to use it that day they said we need to come back and use them on our next visit. Then went for opening night of football and ate, drank, ran up a pretty big tab and when we went to redeem our free round they said "we dont accept those here." We then convinced them it was in fact from the weekly trivia night they hold and they then said we can only use them on trivia days (not what they said on trivia day). The owner came over to speak with us and asked how are they supposed to make any money if they accept them. A good place to start would be honor the free 4 drinks for the group that ran up a $200+ tab and retain customers. So Im not really sure when you're supposed to use them. That being said, I have a free round and $45 of gift cards to give since me and my friends wont be back.
I would like to note, this isnt the only poor experience we've had at Mellers - just the most recent and last straw for us.
The food is decent bar food, nothing crazy. Atmosphere is pretty good for a game as long as you have one of the...

Great hospitality; great food; great conversation and always a friendly face in the place; and ... and ...and, great specials like:
Wednesdays: 7p-11p, 75-cent chicken wings!!
Like: $5- 12oz Bud; Bud Light; Bud-New-Thing, usually with bubbles or swanky branding, and, I think, Kona Lager from the draft (at last check) every day, during the days (weekdays).
Like: For those who've unlocked the "regular patron" status, there's always a special, even if it's not on the menu or written on the board i.e. custom care for those who, more-or-less, party "reaponsibly" and tip well.
Buffalo wings are truly "Legendary;" Trivia Tuesdays are top-notch, IMO -- perfectly calibrated for fun with superb UX.
Yankees bar.
Make note either on your egress, or while paying your tab, the sign which reads (in neon or on the cross-country ski) -- "Bad Decision Make for Better Stories."
I hope this place is granted, in it's time, the chance to assume it's place as iconic...
