Cafe D'Alsace: A Taste of French Cuisine and German Sausages in New York

This place was such a pleasant surprise! The location is super nice and simple, but with Alsatian vibes throughout, as well as a really attentive and nice staff. Not only do they have daily specials and a really nice menu - they even have a fixed price menu every day at 50$, that will get you an appetizer, an entree, and a dessert! Can’t beat that, especially if you wanna try a few different things (which is exactly what we did). We started with steak tartare, a tarte, and one of their homemade sausages with sauerkraut. Every single dish was oh so delicious. The steak tartare was really well seasoned and served with toasted slices of baguette and a small salad. Perfect. The tarte flambé - which was basically a flatbread, was topped with fresh veggies and cheese. And my oh my was it scrumptious. The sausage was definitely homemade and super flavorful. We then went onto the entrees, our choices were the risotto with morels and asparagus (which is seasonal), the steak frites - that btw comes with bone marrow, and the chicken with mashed potatoes and veggies. Once again, none of the items disappointed us. The steak was very nicely cooked and flavorful, the fries weren’t the best ever but were pretty good nevertheless. The chicken was nice and juicy, very nicely cooked indeed. We were already pretty full, but you can’t leave without dessert, right? The Creme brûlée was simple but nicely prepared, and served with a small Madeleine. The red berries crumble was fresh and cleansed our palates with the right amount of tartness and sweetness. The piece de resistance was without a doubt the profiteroles - perfect choux pastry filled with ice cream as well as homemade whipped cream, and topped with a delicious dark chocolate sauce. Absolutely heavenly. I will go back without a doubt and I recommend you to make your way to the UES for this really good gem.

We were visiting NY and our friends who live there chose Cafe d'Alsace. They are foodies and known the owners who have several French and Italian restaurants in Manhattan. They told us this was the old Elaine's spot. They were formally down the block. Very nice charming décor. We sat in a smaller rear dining room. Great and attentive service. Started with one of my favorite appetizers, Grilled Mediterranean Octopus , fingerling potatoes, cherry tomatoes, aged balsamic, and fresh basil oil, very good. My wife ordered on of her favorite's Soupe à l'Oignon Gratinée ,aged Gruyère and country bread , also very good. For mains, my wife tried the Burger D'Alsace ,brioche, aioli, caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato, and French fries with a choice of: Cheddar, Gruyère, Roquefort, or Alsatian Munster. super burger. I opted for another one of favorites which you really see on a menu, Choucroute Garnie ,assorted sausages, artisan smoked bacon, Riesling-braised sauerkraut, juniper berries, steamed potatoes, and Dijon mustard. Great dish bursting loads of flavor. For dessert, we opted for the Hazelnut Chocolate Tart ,fleur de sel, crème Anglaise, and caramel ice cream, very good. Also the Profiteroles with vanilla ice cream and a hot chocolate sauce, not your tradtional Profiteroles. Great choice for a very enjoyable and memorable dinner.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Cade d’Alsace in New York City and indulged in their impeccable smoked salmon board—a true culinary masterpiece. The presentation alone was stunning, with vibrant slices of smoked salmon fanned out beautifully on a rustic wooden board. Each piece was silky, with just the right amount of smokiness that balanced perfectly with its delicate, rich flavor. Accompanying the salmon was a selection of fresh, traditional accompaniments: finely diced red onions, capers, and thinly sliced cucumbers. The crème fraîche added a tangy richness that complemented the salmon's texture, while the freshly baked rye bread provided a sturdy, earthy base with a crisp crust and soft, warm center. What truly elevated this dish were the subtle details: the hint of dill that infused the entire board with freshness, and a touch of lemon that brightened the palate with every bite. Every element felt thoughtfully curated, enhancing the natural flavors of the salmon without overwhelming it. If you're looking for a simple yet elegant dish that exudes quality and craftsmanship, the smoked salmon board at Cade d’Alsace is an absolute must-try. It’s the perfect balance of savory, fresh, and luxurious—a true standout in New York’s culinary scene.

This cafe rock! The first time we came here for brunch and sat by the window. We had the best brunch! This lovely restaurant has a few dining sections. The back is perfect for a private party. In the front is the main dining area, next to it is a bar area and the outside seating covers the entire restaurant front with comfy seats. We ordered the artisan smoked salmon served with country bread on a big wooden tray. It also comes with salmon spread. Wow! This was a perfect dish! Fresh salmon and bread. That was Hubby’s dish, but of course, what’s his is mine lol. I had omelet Maison. It’s a goat cheese and spinach omelet. It was served with mesclun salad and roasted potatoes. It was yummy! Most importantly everything was fresh! We had a great waiter named Maddy. We returned for dinner the following week and sat at the same table. We love this table! I had rainbow trout from the specials and Hubby had a burger. Wow! Fantastique! See, eating here improves my French, which I don’t speak. We also ordered a cheesecake after the meal. Wow! The cheesecake comes with some cream on top which I removed to the side. Incredible! We will return for dinner soon. Definitely will be back for brunch too. Excellent place, food and service!
