Miss Nellie's — Restaurant in New York

There are few places diners go where, upon immediately entering, the atmosphere embraces them like a scene from a warm and wonderful holiday movie. Miss Nellie's on West 44th Street, NYC, is just that type of place. Upon approaching to enter, the façade reveals a late-Victorian style that is a beautiful preamble to the indoor layout, design, décor of the same style, and friendly greeting staff. The internal feel, comfort, stunning architectural scheme, aesthetically selected furniture, and friendly greeting staff provided a cozy, family-like drinking and dining experience. The high-top round tables and low-table banquet-style seating add to the familial atmosphere. The holiday decorations, other hanging pictures and wall pieces, remind me of some Victorian museums in New England and parts of Canada. I was especially fond of the Christmas tree. (See photos). For food, I had the pleasure of trying the oyster and shrimp cocktail appetizers; both were nice in size and great in taste. Because I am a red wine drinker, I had a great red wine called Grounded by Josh Phelps, California. The wine went great with my selected appetizers. I was with a friend who had various cocktails (see photos). They were made to perfection by the bartender, Shain, who exhibited marked professionalism and talent as a mixologist. He was friendly and humorous and worked nearly non-stop during my stay there. I wanted to love this place and was so excited to come here. The photos of the interior vibe looked amazing as did the food. And I will say both of those delivered. We ordered a short stack of the bee pollen pancakes to share and it was delicious albeit VERY sweet and I am a sweets lover. My friend took a few bites and had to tap out because it was just too sweet for her. She ordered the tuna crispy rice and I ordered the shaved brussel salad with chicken. Service is where things fell short. Our server was kind, but either due to her forgetting or the kitchen blundering the order, our food was brought out and my salad was missing chicken. When the runner came over with the food I asked where the chicken was and said I ordered chicken. He first told me no which sort of took me aback and then he said he would find our server. Even then I wasn’t too worried or even disappointed, I know things happen. Our server came to the table and apologized and assured us that the chicken would be out in three minutes. The chicken took over ten minutes, probably just shy of fifteen. I didn’t want my friend’s meal to get cold so I encouraged her to eat and she was done eating by the time my chicken had arrived. I also was hungry so I began eating the salad without any protein and was halfway done with it when the chicken finally arrived. Miss Nellie’s is delightful!! I can confidently say it’s worth checking out! From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was inviting, the decor was charming, and the service was top-notch—especially thanks to our server, Dakota, who was attentive and friendly throughout the meal.

For drinks, I ordered the Dirty Dill, which is a must-try if you love pickles. It was flavorful and refreshing, though probably not something I’d order back-to-back. My partner went with a Grey Goose Cosmo, which was a well-made classic that didn’t disappoint.

We started with the Nashville Chicken Bites, and I highly recommend eating them with the pimento cheese and buttermilk aioli—the combination was absolutely delicious! The chicken was cooked perfectly, and the sauce brought everything together.

For mains, I had the 2-Patty Smash Burger with Fries, and I loved every bite. The burger was juicy, flavorful, and exactly what I wanted. The fries had great seasoning but could have been a bit crispier. My partner ordered the Chicken Vodka Parmesan with Broccolini, and it was outstanding! The breaded chicken meatballs and pasta were so good that we’re already planning to try recreating the dish at home.
