On Monday the 15th of April. I was running late so instead of making a coffee at home . I decided I’d get one close to work. On my walk to the train station I had a thought and decided I’d get the coffee by the bodega close to my place. Support the community you know. So I walked into Mon amour. There was a construction worker by the register waiting for his food. The gentleman with beard was ringing him up and mostly chatting. I’d bought coffee a few times from there. So he knew me by face. It was a 2 minute wait without being acknowledged. Then another construction worker walked in. The guy at the register then signalled out to his female coworker to come and help him. She greeted him and proceeded to make his drink. She then noticed that I had been waiting there before this person had walked in. Then asked me what I wanted. I asked for a small coffee with 2 sugars and a bit of French vanilla cream. She made my beverage. Everything was fine. She then put it on the counter and told me the total was $1.50 I then took cash to hand to the guy and he said it will be $2. Mind you the distance between him and the lady was less than 2 feet. So he heard her tell me $1.50. I protested and pointed out that the lady had just said $1.50 for my coffee. He then countered that it was 50 cents for the French vanilla. Mind you this was not a cup to French vanilla just a splash. Rather than argue with him I paid for the coffee and left. By the time I got to the train I wished I had told him to keep the coffee which would have forced them to either try to sell that to someone or give it away or throw it away.
This review is more about principles than the money. I actually sat on this for almost two weeks. Before deciding I should post this.
When small businesses like this wonder why people flock to bigger businesses, it’s because of how unscrupulous people like the guy at the register in Mon amour grill and deli treat other humans. I’ll never give or recommend business to this establishment again because of this. I would rather walk a few extra blocks if it means I get treated with integrity. Hopefully the extra 50 cents made that guys day. I’m glad the Jubilee Cafe across the street from them offers great coffee options with excellent...
Read moreMostly chill staff, but there's definitely a resentful vibe against certain customers — in particular, one rude young man even instigated an argument between customers, which escalated to the point where the aggressor brought in an outdoor seat inside the store as a threat of violence... completely unwarranted.
I don't know any business that can afford to lose any customer base... and maybe some customers don't need to price check the items they buy, but I'm on a budget and it's upsetting to find out that the labels are not actually giving the cost to...
Read moreIm visiting family here and have been craving a good burger that didnt taste like grease yet was inexpensive and close by. This place is small yes, but theres some good stuff in there and their menu option for food they make on the grill is bigger than what you may expect for a place like this. Tonight I got a burger just to hold me over and the guy who made it was not only considerate and nice, but a slayer of the grill! If you want something quick you should 100% step in here for some snacks, drinks, food, and...
