I live in the area and wanted to see the space because my lease is expiring at the end of February. I decided I would stop in on Sunday afternoon. I thought the signs posted throughout that they are "showing" would allow me to stop by without an appointment to get a tour. The hours posted on the internet said open 9-5. I thought they would be especially welcoming to walk-in traffic considering the street that leads to the front entrance is still under construction (literally a patch of rocks, torn up concrete and puddles). However, I was unpleasantly surprised at how inflexible and not accommodating they were. First, I encountered the concierge who laughed at me for not having an appointment (again- nothing on those multiple advertisements that said "by appointment only). After that, I spoke to someone on the concierge's cellphone who said it was impossible to give me a tour, even though I was in the lobby explaining that it would be tough for me to get there until the following weekend. And again, unless you are cruising by on the East River Ferry, this place does not have the greatest curb appeal.
Along with the torn-up street, the building sits next to multiple construction sites along West Street that are potential competitors on the one hand and noise obstructions for anyone living there on the other hand. I guess this is the equivalent of rich people trying to change NYC nightlife into bottle service and long lines and convincing people that being treated rudely is a sign of getting something better. I am wondering when these developers are going to realize the volume of these types of apartments on this side of the river means you may have actually to consider customer service for prospective tenants. It also doesn't seem to me that this kind of treatment bodes well for how tenants would be treated in...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe were really excited to move into the Greenpoint given we love the area and the building looked great. We knew there would be some period of the amenities being completed (although it seems the indicated finish date of end July was very optimistic as itās end August and nothing has been finished yet). That we could deal with - what has soured the experience is the ongoing maintenance issues. Some have been annoying but not critical from the shower not heating up for several minutes to poorly installed blinds. However this biggest issue has been that we recently discovered the bedroom AC unit was not properly installed and has been leaking water into the floorboards and wall in the bedroom. As a result itās attracted an infestation of flies as well as mild which is very troubling. Our efforts to communicate with the management company have been met largely with silence and, from what weāve heard, we arenāt the only unit with ongoing issues.
I hope management finally takes note and works to make this a safe and healthy place to live because I think the building has the potential to be awesome. The actual staff and maintenance works we have spoken to want to help but they donāt seem to have have the authority or support to fix...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had the opportunity to stay at The Greenpoint building for a week during a business trip, and I absolutely loved it. The building is beautiful and located in an ideal area with great amenities. Its proximity to the water and the ferry system made it easy for me to travel into the city. The gym is top-notch, and the building has plenty of common areas. The surrounding areas are also growing and developing. I was able to see two living areas, both of which were clean and made good use of space. The studio I stayed in had a bed that retracted into the ceiling when not in use. Despite being a bigger guy, I was initially concerned about its stability, but it worked well. The Lounge area was a perfect meeting area with a killer balcony. The KAWS sculpture was cool. I don't get it, but it's very artistic. I only wish the rooftop access was a little higher, but it still provided a secluded area with great views. I used the Garden area well to get out and enjoy a quite secluded place to work. I spent a lot of time there. Everyone I encountered, living or working in the building, was terrific. This would be my top choice if I needed permanent...
