Way overpriced for what you're getting and the food is mediocre at best. Their lamb chops are pricey and were served cold and chewy. I felt chewing on a tire, and the meat had little to no taste at all.
Whichever order you end up with, 60% of your dish will consist of lettuce, onions and pickled cabbage, 30% rice. The rest is meat.
a $22 dish you order from Kestane cannot possibly cost more than $3 to make at home. With TAX added and TIP, now you're in the $25 ballpark.
And Kestane? When did lettuce become a major ingredient of our Turkish Cuisine? I am of Turkish descent. In Turkey, lettuce is fed to cattle and goats. We don't have many Californicated Blonde anorexic Kardashians over there now do we, or hipsters with porcupine haircuts designing dull tee-shirts at Starbucks with a macbook air and listening to 'indie' while pretending to be anti-consumerism? The kinda people who are still stuck in the gangs of NY movie theme yet somehow are willing to pay $18 for a lettuce dish.
And I've been to almost every restaurant from Taksim to İstinye, never once did I have to deal with so much lettuce in my life, or is it the lettuce culture in this country where now every dish is stuffed with so much lettuce you end up growing ears like Alice rabbit?
NO Kestane, I'm sorry but I don't...

Read moreKestane is a cozy and comfortable place to dine. The owner Nick was attentive and gave a great suggestions when we couldn’t decide on certain dishes. And the food was surprisingly delicious and flavorful. Definitely will be our regular place!
We ordered the small (5 kinds) mix vegetarian cold appetizers. The spicy vegetables dip was especially good. Their babaganoush has perfect creamy and not so smoky flavor. Sometimes I find babaganoush at other places is too smoky but what they have here was subtle and delicious! After trying 5 different cold appetizers, I believe that their other ones will be worth trying. They all came with piping hot handmade bread. So good!
We also ordered one lamb shish kebab and one chicken kebab plate. The portion was generous. The baby lamb cubes were well-marinated, and grilled to perfection!
We finished our meal with turkey coffee, tea, and their rice pudding and custard. What a tasty way to end our meal there!
This is a must...
